when I lived in mexico I saw a lot of people wearing them. mexico still has that 'mystic' quality about its culture where a lot of people believe in the evil eye...my grandmother used to tell me when an 'evil eye' bracelet (or necklace) fell off or broke, it meant that it had absorbed its quota of negative energy.
(I still prefer to believe this instead of thinking the chain simply broke)

I put a bead from a cheap bracelet on silver hoop earrings-each hoop has an evil eye on it. I love them...and need to buy some better hoops-these have almost quit snapping in the back I've worn them every day for the last year or two..

I never heard of that. My bracelet broke just two days after wearing it. I just ordered 10 more on ebay, so hope they get here soon!
