In really not a fan of macs, or their looks either. I feel no sense of power when I see a Mac and they are overpriced IMO.
After talking to a bunch of different people before buying my laptop this summer, the general consensus was that a Toshiba, HP, or Dell were good decisions, while a Mac would be a better decision for graphic work.

I ended up getting an HP Pavilion with 1.6ghz Centrino Duo (almost silent) with 1.5gb ram, 120gb hard drive and 15.4" widescreen...
it also contains an 8x optical DVD/CD-RW drive and a card reader for SD MS.Pro/MMC/SM/XM cards which I find to be extremely convenient. Also comes with a media remote to control media functions (has a slot ont he side for you to put in when not in use) which is handy if youre watching movies, or using the laptop for a presentation...
Overall, I've been happy with my purchase

For all your power needs, IBM's butt-ugly laptops are absolute beasts I've discovered. I tried a Lenovo instore and I'm sure people mistook the Core Duo powering up for a motorbike engine.

My new laptop, VAIO FS515E only £500, and no Apple in sight:

I currently own a Sony Vaio Notebook and let me tell you it's been the best investment I have ever made. I bought it last year and it runs fast, I've never had a problem with it and the DPI (color) is just amazing. It's a bit of an investment as I payed $2700 for it, but definatley worth it.

I have a Dell XPS M140. It's really lovely, runs really fast, very durable...Im loving it so far.

Wish I would've gotten something cooler, I kind of want to spray paint it a matte black...Maybe w/ electric blue trim? Ooo, Im going to the place where they sell paint...Home Depot I believe it's called?

Where did you find a vaio in the UK for £500? Must have been second hand or subsidized....

MACs are good computers. They generally are superior to PC's in terms of their makeup and how they run. But I just do not like their interface which i find really difficult to use. For some reason, both my laptops have been compaq's and i love my new one. It runs really well and I can pop it easily into my Muse to carry round if i need to.

I would recommend that anyone looking to buy a laptop check out Consumer Reports and other similar publications for unbiased ratings and reviews, I've found them to be so helpful with many of my important purchases.

I'm hesitating between a pc or mac

Sony VAIO if it's a pc...but if it's a mac I'm not sure, wich one is the cutest in your opinion ??? (the look is more important since I'm not doing complicated stuff with my computer )

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never realized how hard it is to buy a friggin' laptop.

I'm starting for college, so I want something light. Not too big and not too small. I heard that Dell, Lenovo, and Toshiba were the best brands. Although Sony has the nicest models.

Any recs for a laptop that's really sleek and light and is under $1000?

And is it true Dell's crash alot?
