Rapper and producer PHARRELL WILLIAMS is teaming up with fashion label Louis Vuitton to design a special line of jewellery.
THE NEPTUNES star was selected by designer MARC JACOBS to team with jewellery designer CAMILLE MICELI for the collection.
Miceli recently styled MARIAH CAREY for her music video SAY SOMETHIN', which also featured Pharrell and SNOOP DOGG.
The video was shot over four days in Los Angeles and Paris, France.
Miceli explains the range, "Is going to be jewels with such scale, so large - and of course very, very unique."
The Miceli/Pharrell collaboration will debut in early 2007.
"jewels with such scale, so large"...so it's going to just be bling?
I've never understood the celebrity fashion thing. So how much imput does Pharrell have? Is it mostly going to be done by Miceli and just have his name attached?
Louis Vuitton has been really in the the hip-hop scene lately, and it sounds like Marc Jacobs is in no way stopping it. But with all of this hip-hop stuff surrounding the company, couldn't the more conservative upper-crusty people rethink purchases?

It might go the way of Burberry, it was so bad that people were being refused from clubs if you had the check on your clothes. It's really tacky.

Really? I've never heard about that before! Refusal from club due to tacky jewels

I know a lot of black ppl out here buy LV. I guess rap culture is becoming more popular in fashion
I think it could be good for the company because it's more of a collaboration. It has the subversiveness that Jacobs loves to bring to the table and its a cheeky idea, merging hip hop culture with high French culture. I certainly understand and believe hip hop to be international and I think this is something that would do well in markets that will appreciate it like here in the US and certainly in Japan. But I don't think Williams will be able to do as he pleases nor do I think he'd want to. Jacobs has been assigned the task of bringing edge to a company that even the crusty uppers weren't buying because they already had it. I think people are interested in luxury widening itself, even if doing so reveals the bias of those hiding behind it.
