Just did my shopping statistics for the year. I've bought 20 items (and gotten one as a gift from my husband)
- 6 dresses
- 3 pairs of jeans
- 3 pairs of boots
- 2 sweaters
- 2 skirts
- 1 tee
- 1 silk blouse
- 1 bag
- 1 blazer
- 1 beanie
While this is still more than I basically need, it is a lot less than last year both in terms of quantitites and spending.
At the end of 2017 I decided on a maximum amount I wanted to spend on shopping during the year, and I have managed to stick to that. If I subtract the amount I earned from selling items from my wardrobe, I have only spent 70% of the maximum amount.
I am really glad that I have spent less than previous years and that I have spent less time on shopping as well. I still feel like I would like to cut down more though. In 2018 I think I will try to stick with maximum 1 item a month on a yearly average, which may be challenging but not impossible as I feel like I got my basics covered. I know this might not be possible for all years to come, but right now I feel like I am good.
Is anyone else keeping track of their purchases in a similar way?
1) black jeans
2) grey stretch silk trousers
3) black skirt
4) light green T
5) bronze cross-body bag
6) red w/ black ballets
7) black T w/ draping
8) black wool LS top
9) floral print silk/cashmere sleeveless sweater
Items that don't:
Protest Ts
white T
alterations
PJs
rose gold sandals
lingerie
I am under my item budget for the year, but over due to earlier purchases which I am counting Looking at my list, it's quite heavy on basics. Finding good statement items seems to be a challenge right now.
Currently my wardrobe has been working really well ... no gaps.

My 2017 items:
- knitwear sweater with extra long sleeves
- raincoat
- small silk scarf
- 2 Uniqlo ultra light down for in house and layering under coats etc
- wide worker pants
- trenchcoat
- suede booties
- leather cap
I've spent 50% less compared to last year, because I'm 'saturated' and don't spot many nice items also when I see something potential special it's not that special irl or nowhere to find for example that black Chanel jacket. By the way, Chanel service is not good, very slow, not 100% helping/informative, really old fashioned not modern and fast at all. They really should step up the game.
Interesting items so far for next year:

^^Seems like both of you had a good year!
@Nymphaea: I get the feeling of being "saturated". I feel like I've got my basics really well covered at this point, so no need to add a lot extra. It's kind of incredible that Chanel has such horrible service. Looks like some interesting items - I especially like the coat.
@Ta-ta: I was about to say that I had a different experience regarding statement items this year, but I really get what you mean. I think I have been looking for a supplement for that floral dress all year with no luck. Luckily the SS collections looks more interesting, so here's to hoping. I just find that a lot of dresses are not fitted these days, and that is not a good look for me.
Hope all of you had a merry Christmas

I got a pair of pants and a pair of moon-shaped studs for Christmas. I have very few bottoms (at the moment only the floral ganni skirt, the IM wrap skirt and my Levi's jeans), and I sort of needed something I could wear to work. I think these will be good with heeled boots and a blazer (and with sneakers and a stripe tee for uni). The earrings will be for everyday-wear. I have a thing with moon (and star) illustrations ATM.

Like most wardrobes here, mine is in a good place as well. I picked up a few t-shirts in the sales because some wore out last year. And I'm keeping an eye out for a new coat for F/W 18/19 because the one I'm currently wearing seems to be wearing out (after 6 years of heavy use, so it had a good run). I'm not quite sure what I want yet, nothing is really speaking to me thus far. It seems to be mostly bombers or oversized peacoats, neither of which are what I'm drawn to atm..
I haven't been keeping track of my purchases in 2017, being that organized isn't really my style.

Ta-ta, how would you say that the Lanvin ballet flats run, size wise? Do you happen to have any other italian sized shoes that you can compare to? I am pretty sure I need a IT37,5, but if they are very snug, I might size up. I am looking at the plain patent black ones
I am currently scrambeling to try to assemble a semi-professional wardrobe for monday, when I start my first career job. I'd say yay, but I am too busy not. being. stressed.
This is how it is going so far:
- black work tote has not arrived yet, so I have no non-scruffy bags to use.
- my first pair of black work trousers are too short for my winter boots
- my other pair of work trousers doesn't fit me due to christmas (which I am totally considering not celebrating next year because I am so crossed! Stupid christmas candy.)
- my laptop is still at the repair shop, and service has been delayed (why God, why?!) So I am stuck with a huge black plastic laptop from 1860. Or possibly the middle ages, I can't tell. It is not like they had language back then.
- And also, my hair color does not go with january weather. It just doesn't, and it is a problem. My hair is too pale and the colors outside are all wrong.
- There is also the fact that law school does not prepare you for actual real life work to worry about
Okay, I feel slightly better being able to get that off my chest.
I am heading into town tomorrow, and hopefully I Filippa-k have a pair of trousers long enough to cover my winter boots and I will succeed in bribing the tailor to hem it before the week is up. I am not. stressed. at. all.

I am picturing white doves delivering hand written letters. Am I close?
I really admire your ability to hold out for the really special btw

They run 1/2 size small I believe ... I know they're made in Italy, but shouldn't they be French size? Anyway, they run small, and that's also in comparison to Lanvin's other shoes. I wear an 8.5 US or 38.5 FR, and always take a 39 in Lanvin ballets.
Also, the plain ones (most of mine are cap-toe) seem to be a little snugger at the toe/tip. Also with the patent, the elastic crinkles my skin in an odd way Hopefully this won't be the case with you.
PS Congrats on the new job!!

Most of these worries sound pretty much imaginary to me Just remember that what you think is a flaw, 99.9% of everyone else has never noticed Your hair color is fine, and your bags have patina. Also, will your firm not issue you a laptop? It's rare for anyone to expect me to show up to work with a machine.

Several good points I will be supplied with a computer or laptop, but I would not feel right showing up empty handed regardless, in case it is not ready.
How's the stress now eizhowa? Done anymore anti-stress movements? Congrat on your job!
Oh yes, that would be something for sure. But you can't programm the home adresses I'm afraid with doves. That black Chanel jacket isn't produced. Finally I see something I like from Chanel and then they don't produce it, what the heck! And on the website they still state that there is a black version.
I would love for brands to put everything they are producing on their website and where to find/buy it. Because they often produce off the runway items that you'll have to discover by chance and often in store.
My next item to try will be the Isabel Marant pants, hopefully they didn't change anything in the design/production process and it seems that the male models are wearing a non cropped version, therefore I want to try the male version.
