All about being a hipster (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Can I get a definition ?

from http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...rm=hipster&r=f that heynicepants posted:

Quote:
1) Hipster: I won't drink at starbucks, it's too corporate.

2)Non-Hipster: I want a Louis Vitton purse because they are cool

Hipster: You're such a conformist, haveing a Louis Vitton purse is so unoriginal. I like my purse I found in the gutter for $4 dollars.

Non-hipster: but it's fugly

Hipster: yah, but no one else has it. It's completely unique.

Non-hipster: that bum over there has something pretty similar though.

Hipster: You're ignorant because you can't see the real beauty in life.
I don't have time for this, I'm gonna go to my cave of an apartment and listen to some indie rock you've probably never heard of....

Non hipster: You need to see a therapist

Hipster: I am my own therapist.

I'm not really sure there is a definition for hipster...it would defeat everything hipsters stand for.

If they spend a lot of money to look like street bums, if they talk too loud in coffee shops about Sartre, if they proudly and obstreperiously listen to bands you have never heard of, which all sound the same (whiny, strident, musically inept), if they have not had a working relationship with a hairbrush for a good two years, if their car is mostly held together with snarky bumperstickers, and if they can sneer in their sleep, then they're probably hipsters.

I like black market, but not as much as courage my love. But courage my love used to be WAY better. Sort of Kensington has lost the funness for me.

PS

Totally pre-dates emo. Like...this was the scene before emo "sold out" *sneer* It all happened in an abandoned parking garage in Cleveland, you know. Nobody who wasn't anybody was there. *eyeroll*

*sips a Pabst* This **** tastes like ****, but at least it's cheap, right? None of that ***** microbrew stuff for us oppressed masses. Oh wait...we're the oppressed minority, right? Alls I know is we'r ****in' oppressed. Society's conformist standards *mutter* *curse* *rant* *roll loose-leaf tobacco cigarette*

You might guess I don't have much patience for hipsters/scenesters/emo/miscellaneous poseurs. You'd guess right.

Edited to add hipster bingo!

Next question: what are scarfie shoes?

I could only find this:
Quote:
scarfie: university student, particularly from Universities of the South Island

ahh so now I can call them something outside of the "im trying to hard to be emo and different from everyone but theres 50 of us standing in a room who all look/act/talk the same about how we are so different and in tune with everything oh woe is me my emotions are running rampent"

haha amusing .. *I'm slightly annoyed because this crowd ^ has taken over one of my fav. late night hang outs.. and its annoying when they get on stage to play music/read and it just sucks and all sounds the same*

*ahaha that bingo game cracks me up.. *saddly I have a star tattoo and I wear my old pumas *

Icon5 scenesters

they try to dress like the strokes. lately they are rocking the scarf look.

they may live in williamsburg brooklyn but are having real trouble paying the rent lately. they are looking at queens, staten island, or jersey for 2005.

most of their money comes from mommy. if they work it is part-time & definitely at a lower-paying wage.

they are famous for their 'anti' attitude [as seen in starbuck's example above] but really their mission in life is to 'be cool' and if you actually engage them in a political social historical or philosophical discussion, you will be shocked by their lack of education and even real-world practicality life-lessons.

hipster-scenester-billyburg-er is basically a derogatory phrase at this point.

nyc is full of them...
i'd pretty much agree with most of lady grey's post...but plenty of people who live in posh apartments uptown get their money from mommy too... probably more...

i think that if these kids in brooklyn really got any significant money from mommy...they wouldn't be living in williamsburg...no matter how cool they try to convince you it is...it's still not manhattan...
