Cutting up a too-small shirt?
I have this vintage girl's T-shirt that I just got. It's a big too snug, though. I was wondering if I should try cutting it up to make it either a tank or an off-shoulder shirt. I was thinking of starting with the sleeves...cutting them off, then making the arm holes bigger to make a tank of some sort.

Any idea how to do this? Any instructions, patterns? Thanks.

Yes, Diorling is right cutting up the shirt will not make it bigger. If you are good with a sewing machine you could undo the side seams and add a strip of fabric to make it bigger. If it is the design of the t-shirt you could always cut it out and attach it creativly to a t-shirt that does fit.

I did something really cool with a cheap shirt that was too tight and too short for me. The fabric was too pretty I couldn't help it.

I cut it right down the middle, and now it's one of those short mini-cardigan things (without buttons or anything down the middle.) It's like a 'shrug' or whatever you call it.

I get compliments every time I wear it.

I wish I could sew... it'd be so cool to take my t-shirts and make awesome tops out of them.

I think I'll marry a tailor. hahaah

this reminds me of a what not to wear... hahaha

One of my friends took a tshirt that was way too small.. ,cut of the design ..then sewed it so it looked "messily" stitched on to a tshirt that fit, I think it looks great!

I bought a bunch of really tiny tank tops so I could split them at the side seams and put in rivits on the sides and then I laced leather pieces together- it looks awesome but it took a few tries (which is why I bought some very inexpensive tank tops to do this little project with!) to get it right! Otherwise, don't do it with clothes that are too small, they just usually make you look fat... which, no matter what size we are, that's an undesirable and avoidable look!
