Designing your own clothes...
Have any of you designed your own clothes? I have designed my own clothes but not from scratch I've used sequins and lace on clothes but I want to start from scratch. I dont know where to start, can anybody give me any suggestions on how to do this?

Craftster
See Craftster.org (Click forums on the main page, then scroll down once you hit clothing). People there post pictures of the final product of the item that they make and often times even have a tutorial on how to make the item. Also, you can get a great deal of good advice. Check out this awesome dress made by somebody there:

Here are a list of the tutorials on I talked about:

Hope this helps, Ciao.

I've always wanted to be a designer, but career optimism didn't look too good, so i opted for a 'safer' career path in law. However in my spare time I sometimes go through these 'phases' where I just suddenly buy some fabric and pull out my sewing machine and cut and sew away...
I've managed to successfully make some bags and clothes from scratch.

In a way it's therapeutic and thrifty! I sometimes see wonderful couture pieces that I'd love to own and I'll think of ways to replicate it with the menial sewing talents I have. :p

Spinderella those are great!! I've never designed clothes, but I keep a sketchbook and if an outfit idea hits me I'll sketch it out, sometimes I'll sketch my own designs, but I've never made them..that's my goal for the summer, to see if there are any fashion/sewing classes, or just get my mom to teach me, and maybe buy a dress form! Ahh I saw the coolest one yesterday at a crafts store...knobs that expand it to different measurements and such, maybe that's not too special haha but it seemed cool to me!

This was so much harder than I thought! The shirt turned out to be okay, this is my first time doing it from scratch and I picked the worst fabric to start with cause it was really hard! and complicated! but oh well more practice makes perfect

I was having so much trouble with the top part here

the shirt looks great with my beaded long necklaces, but kinda excited it turned out okay, kinda messy but oh well.
