The Does this work? Thread

Ok, I live here in Hicksville, North Carolina (USA). I'd like to think that somehow in this black hole of fashion where "camo" is cool that I'm fasionably enlightned, but I have no fashion help around here...

This is what I usually wear from top to bottom....

Lacoste polos or Le Tigre (with contrasting t-shirt underneath)
Members Only Jackets
Vintage Looking jeans (not with fake rips or anything like that...)
Adidas Samba shoes or similar

Any Suggestions??!??!

heya

ok......lacoste polo's are a big no in my opinion......actually any polo's are non good.

i prefer cotton/ cashmere long sleeve v-neck tops which you can layer or just wear alone

if you can afford it, try and get a really nice belt length black jacket......try Dior Homme or Gucci

vintage jeans are always great as long as they arent baggy or ill fitting

as for shoes.......i think sport shoes should only be for SPORT or days when u really feel bad.
try some snakeskin or leather cowboy boots, or just black loafers

im not sure whats its like in Hicksville so im not sure if that helped

This is what it's like in Hicksville...

Camo Trucker Hat - these people are actual truckers usually, so it's not a fashion thing

Graphic Tee - Dixie Flag or Lynyrd Skynyrd band logo

Old Jeans - rips from actual wear and tear

Boots w/mud

If it's cold there will usually be a Camo jacket or other large hunting jacket to round out the ensemble.. maybe even a rifle..

the only other people that think they're trying to be fashionable wear trucker hats and stuff from hot topic.

Yeah, the small lacostes are key.. I'm a medium-large size guy and I wear a 5 with a T-Shirt underneath.. I also pop the collar usually for maximum preppy effect. I wish I would see some more people (girls especially) wearing lacoste, but.. around here it's not going to happen.

There are 2 places to get Lacoste Polos within 50 miles of my house.. (you have to drive 20 miles to get anywhere).
There is a Belk's in the mall in Wilmington, and there is another store in the mallcalled Fleishman's Fine Clothes. That's it.

I go to thrift stores about twice a week, and i've only found one lacoste polo. Purple!!!

On Friday I found a Plaid IZOD Lacoste Dinner/Suit Jacket...

Do they make a 16 years POLO? I should be getting that then, I mean, the small is tight on me, but not tight enough.
That and the fact that Im 16

i think i good rule for any wardrobe is to have really good, quailty basics. then you can rotate trendy pieces in.

basics like --

good black, charcoal and white tshirts (banana republic!)
basic 5 pocket jeans (diesel's, levi's -- just something to roll around in)
fashion jean (diesel, seven, energie, rogan, paper denim etc)
charcoal pinstripe suit
crisp white button up
crisp black button up
black and brown oxfords
dressy boot
rugged boot
sneaks (vintage inspired if you want)
belts to match
watch for work and a watch for play
good pair of versatile sunglasses
some nice polos (i like lacoste the most)
black v neck sweater
plain front chinos (banana republic!)

see all that basic stuff is pretty versatile even though its basic. like take the suit jacket, fashion jeans, fashion boots and white button up - voila! you'll look really hot. or the fashion jeans with just a plain white tshirt that hugs you in all that right places with the rugged boots. you'll look so effortlessly good, ya know? or the suit pants, a vintage tee and boots or even vintage inspried sneaks. the combinations are endless

My best advise is to move :P

You know, there is a prominent designer, Thomas Engel Hart who came out of NC, so not all is lost! He now lives in Paris of course.
