While I realize it's winter for some of our friends in the lower hemisphere it is getting into the prime heat of summer over here. In fact, London is going through yet another mini heat wave at the moment. I was wondering how you all dress when the temperatures reach the 90's/30's? I know some people live in very hot zones so what are your thoughts.

When it gets hot like this and you can't move for sweating I tend to dress a lot more simply and in clothes that are multifunctional. I'm all about my Gap reversible skirts (something happens you just turn it around or inside out) and white tshirts for work. I'm lucky I can get away with that sort of thing. On the weekends it's just layered tanks and jeans or very skinny tops.

for me all my layers come off...
i can only do one layer...usually loose and light
so it gets kind of simple...
and have to wear open toe shoes...and they have to be flat...

Agreed, when it's very hot I use one loose layer, very simple. Big, airy cotton or linen shirts in white, navy or black. Sandals. Loose trousers or shorts, no jeans.

yes sorry when I said layer tanktops I meant I have one tanktop that is quite low cut so I wear something under it but other than it is quite loose and simple. Also I agree, always open sandals. I'm always surprised at women who can wear heels in the heat. All the extra exertion seems like simply too much.

Seeing that it's over 30 degrees celsius (90F) 80% of the time...
I do:

- lots of paler colours
- less of the necklaces and more bracelets, bangles etc
- ponytails, braids, uptwists...anything that keeps my hair off my neck
- less makeup (if I even have any on) because it melts too easily in the heat

- and for the past summer...plenty of shorts

It's been in the upper 90's-100's for the past week here, and lucky me got to work! (Being a highschooler, I get to sack people's groceries and bring them outside to their cars.) My uniform is a lovely pair of black pants and a long sleeve white shirt. The pants are not too conducive to keeping cool.

Otherwise, it's summer, I'm not seeing many people, so I stick to jeans and a tee shirt. I live in the suburbs, so I'm really only outside in parking lots...

Dressing to Beat the Heat
I work in a corporate office so I can't dress too casually. What I wear to beat the heat while trying to look professional is a pair of dress pants from a suit or just a plain pair of black trousers and a sleeveless shell and I will take along the matching cardigan in case the air conditioning gets too chilly. Its the best I can do under the circumstances - working in corporate stinks when it comes to foul weather.

Tanktops, skirts, shorts, few jewelry and make-up and always open sandals/ballet flats in the evening.

Cotton shirts in grey, white and green. Loose pants or shorts (manly cotton too), only summer jeans. No belts. No bracelets/watch. Leather flip-flops. And no layering of course .

simple tees and short-shorts.
I try not to look like a slut though, if that's even possible in southern california in the summer.
