Thank you all for your sweetness! I must say I lve everything I bought, so it's hard to be sorry, and I use almost everything.

And don't think I haven't tried every single pair of my shoes on in the buff!

As for clothes... I bought a beautiful Helmut Lang coat. I've worn it nearly everyday this winter!

As a whole though, clothes are just not as easy, so I'm less tempted. My body-type is a little tough to fit. I do need to spend some time upgrading my clothes wardrobe, though.

I took sewing classes last year and made a bunch of skirts and tops (and a beautiful plum cape that I lost at LAX promptly after finishing ).

I haven't done much sewing lately, and I really want to get back to it!

haha - this thread is turning into clothes porn - again!
was secret shopaholics originally about listing your recent buys?

is it guilty pleasure or just straight pleasure.
i would say other people's shopping begets shopping too. when i check out secret shopoholics, it kind of enables me! i can't buy half the high end stuff that regular posters on there buy, but still . . .

i must admit, january is a hard month. nicht money and yet so many sales. i should be saving for baby stuff, but instead i bought a vivienne westwood coat, as it was a quarter of its original price.

in fact, i have used being pregnant as an excuse to buy a whole bunch of new things - jeans, underwear, tops and dresses. of course, you need it to an extent but really, i have gone a bit mad (by my own standards, not anyone (ahem) in this thread!

it was nice though, to put all the stuff i can't wear right now away and just arrange a long rail and drawers with all the stuff i can wear. it actually rejuvenated my daily style to be able to see stuff, make new combinations etc and i started keeping my style diary thing on flickr again (ok -its also to document my pregnancy but when I photograph yourself nearly every day, i make more of an effort.)

although i respect that moving up in terms of quality and style, i don't know if that always has to mean only buying high-end. i still think that the chicest style is a mix between high-end, well-spotted high st and carefully sourced quality vintage. but that's just what rings my bell - i think that's where the real joie de vivre of fashion is.

but i want to be good friends with everything in my wardrobe!

I saw your GRGEOUS Edith & Elle shoes...and they may not have been expensive,
but they have more style than anything I've seen in a while!
Yay for you and your style.

fash...
i hear ya about jan being a tough month....
the sales are SOOOO tempting...

congrats in the little one too...
i had no idea you were expecting...
the westwood coat will be great during and after!..

i do think it is great to reorganize your wardrobe from time to time...
whatever the excuse is...
new season...new purchases...new baby...

it does reinvigorate your closet and remind you of some old favourites and maybe some things you have even forgotten about...

i like to do what you described...
pull all the things i am currently 'feeling' into one area of my closet so that is where i always go first when i am getting dressed...

i have recently uncovered some 'buried treasures' actually...
*some never even worn...

I totally agree with this! Mixing some high-end, high street and vintage is how I like to dress. I always get complimented on my vintage pieces and people think they are high end but little do they know I got them for $3. Style isn't about money- I believe that. A lot of people I see with money sure don't know how to dress with it.

Jan has been an especially hard month for me as I just got back from an expensive vacation, compounded with x-mas presents and participating in a few sales.

I have decided to use 10% of my income to start paying off my credit card debt. I used this method to save for my trip and it worked like a charm. I just deduct a certain percentage of every cheque I get (I work freelance, so the amounts are always different) and put it into a savings account and forget about it. Except it will be harder this time because once I see I have more credit I will be tempted to spend. I would cut up my credit card except for the fact that I know the number and expiry by heart.

I'm really trying to pay down my debt too, it is so hard! I've made a very reasonable budget, so let's hope I can stick to it!

I just have to stay out of the shops. The internet is a temptation too ofcourse, but when I am in a store touching the garment and surrounded by people buying things, I am much more tempted I find.

Umm...but I thought clothes with their tags still attached were in vogue OMG the last several posts were funny but ring true for me as well! I've been trying really hard to prune my wardrobe...mainly because if I don't, I won't have room for anything new. The problem is I'm still working on the mentality of buy something, take something out and give to charity -- right now I'm at buy 3 or 4, and get rid of one...but not that one! January sales were not an easy temptation to pass by

I think I compulsively over-shop when I am lacking creative/intellectual outlets....and I actually have to remind myself that shopping neither cures frustration over this lack....nor does it feed inspiration.

But I find it easier to curb the impulse desire to buy more when I visit my closet, and see the beautiful things I already have--especially the ones that are still waiting to be worn.

i totally agree with that. i have found myself really overspending in times when i am bored or frustrated (in a bad relationship for example).

I decided to count all my bags, I have 18 just in active use. im not counting luggage. I don't know if it's a lot or not, but It constantly feels like I don't have enough.... I am not morally prepared to count the shoes, I have more than 50 pairs for sure.
As for buying few investment pieces, sure, it makes sense. I'd rather have 2 made-to-measure Loro Piana blazers than 8 from Zara, except I can't just go and have them made. I need to save up, consider carefully which colour and fabric I want, I'd have to go for something classic. If you're 42 and have the money to afford it - sure, invest all you want. As for now, Im sticking to impulse buying and cheap thrills. Stone me if you want.
