This is a great idea for a thread. My wardrobe has pretty much been centered around Abercrombie style, since I work full time there, but I'm starting to want to branch out now, and buy pieces for more than just work, which has pretty much been my life for the past year. I'm trying to find a way to keep up on the trends of the company, while still having my own style at the end of the day, which is kind of hard, so I enjoy reading everyone else's ideas.

i have a wardrobe from monday-friday and another one for the weekend, where my expensive items get used more, however liking the minimalistic style this is not really working out, as my weekend style has taken priority I don't feel 100% me in my Mon-Fri wardrobe.
I just don't feel like wearing nice clothing to school, I love taking care of my clothes and make sure I don't over-use them. |

When I go shopping.. I always seem to only like pieces that are similar to items of clothing I already own!
Does that mean I have a perfect wardrobe? ![]() |

I tend to get that feeling at times when I look at my closet, freshly stuffed with the clothes which were cleaned, and all I can think of is: "Damn... I got nothing to wear!"
Then these shoes don't go with those pants, the jacket can't be worn with that bag, this short makes the whole thing too casual for those jeans, leather jacket, y/n? Sometimes I do wish to have a bigger closet, like, the size of the entire men's wear stuff at Bergdorf's, but I'm realistic enough to realize that even then, I'd find myself at the same situation as with my current wardrobe. In such things, there can hardly be an "Enough". |

It's really terrible...
Today I moved out of my suite and I had no one to help me. Everything was so heavy, so I had to throw so much stuff away!! Throw not just clothes but some things I like...... . . Anyway in the end, I felt a bit of relief somehow. It's nice to start over. I just want simple clothes that fit me well. The only thing I think about is, will my schoolmates tell me I wear the same thing everyday? LoL! Though I wouldn't mind it... if I had something nice on. |

most of my items are black, yet they still don't go. ![]() |

I just want to step back, cut down and edit my closet before I make any more purchases.
Like a lot of TFS-ers, I have tons of clothes yet I always feel like I have nothing to wear and in the end I only end up wearing the same few pieces. I even have stuff with tags on them from a few years back! I hope to be able to do a closet edit within the next few weeks and ebay stuff which does not suit me anymore. It will be so refreshing to start anew! In the meantime I really should refrain from purchasing more stuff, but then it's like you know the theories but it's so hard to put them into practise! |

![]() just_me, I think that's happening because your current wardrobe is familiar to you ... unless you have a plan to do otherwise, you'll replicate what you have ... for much the same reason that you would date someone who subconsciously reminds you of one of your parents This is why I have so many black tops ... I've bought only a couple since I started planning my wardrobe, all the rest predate the current era ![]()

I think our idea of the perfect wardrobe is always one that belongs to another person: socialite, celebrity, muse...who ever it is, we want our closets to be just like theirs but we can never get it just right.
It is very annoying...every morning I wake up and I do not know what to wear. I have a LOT of clothes (A LOTTTTT) and I only wear like 10% It is crazy! |

BTW Liz Goldwyn says "Will I wear it now? Will I wear it when I am 40?" That helps me EVERY time I am shopping

I have found that getting my clothes ready in advance, like the night before, saves me all the stress of feeling like I have nothing to wear. I stand in front of my closet and pick not only one outfit, but like 3 to take along with me because I stay at my boyfriend's house some days and then have to jett off to either of my jobs that require different types of dress. But I never get that feeling that I wish I could just get rid of everything and start over again.
The accumulation in my closet has grown to where by the time I do my next load of laundry, I rediscover things I sometimes haven't work in weeks. I try to wear out all of my things before the next load of laundry. This allows me a limited amount of clean clothes to wear and to choose from. In the past year I have been weeding out my closet because I found that many of the clothes (dresses in particular) were not my style anymore or didnt fit me (mostly vintage). I have sectioned off part of the floor by my bed for things that will be sold on ebay, and have now begun specifically buying for ebay (things that I adore but dont fit, that I know someone else will love). This makes things in my head much clearer for if I would buy a certain thing for myself or someone else. But because I have started working retail, I feel I have finally been paying attention a little more to seasonal trends. Especially after moving away from Southern California where it feels like there are no season changes sometimes. I put away my winter clothes to make room for my closet. Because I used to laugh when I would read fashion magazines, and people would speak about how they need to get new things every season. Which I still think is slightly ridiculous (just use some of the things you already have). But now I understand that feeling of what you have not fitting in with the rest of your clothes. Especially when I have to wear clothes from my store in mixed seasons/years. I have learned through becoming older, how to control my compulsive shopping. I tell myself every single time that if I do not instantly fall in love with said item, I will absolutely not purchase it. Because after starting to finally earn my own money (as some of you will see in life) it becomes so easy to want to buy something just because. You should not do that. I think this is what creates the whole feeling of not having anything to wear. Sometimes you are blinded by the things you dont want to wear, you miss the things you could. On the other hand, I found that organizing my closet space and wardrobe by color also helped a great deal. This helps me by not wasting time rummaging through drawers and hangers for something that will coordinate. I can tell you I only have three drawers, one is for intimates, one is split between white and light color tops, the last is split between black and dark tops. My closet goes from dresses, skirts, pants, jackets. I know where everything is and it saves me time putting things away. Granted that every week or two most of it gets unfolded or mixed. I dilligently put it all back together on a lazy afternoon. It takes work to get out of the funk. But instead of just piling more things on top of what I dont want, I trade it out. I am just relieved that getting dressed has become easier over the years. I will try to remember this the next time the feeling sinks in!

@ fashionista-taI have many things that are the same in my wardrobe.. but I don't really want to compromise, so I seem to be stuck in a dark colour palette. But I never have that problem of 'nothing to wear' as all the colours go together and almost no matter what I put on it just goes.. it might be boring, but I need to slowly work on adding more colour, but I won't jump into it. I need to find ways to incorporate more colours, but its hard. joiedemode: If you just go after say what a celeb wear you will never be happy with your own wardrobe as the wardrobe is not really you in the first place, you are dressing after a style you wish you had, not a style that might fit into your daily life. I have also two wardrobes one for the weekdays and one for the weekends. Last edited by just_me : 05-06-2007 at 11:12 AM. |
