i'm not sure what could be called a trend or classic. i bought some tan colored sandals the other day, sort of gladiator style, but simpler. that could possibly be a trend.
but i like timeless clothing. i buy a lot of white, black, deep blue, charcoal gray, in dresses, skinny jeans, tees, black flats. so i guess maybe 10% of my wardrobe is based on trends.

I think everyones closets are based on trends somehow...but I feel like it's okay to let trends affect you. I don't really think about trends like ''ok this is trendy right now so i have to go and buy it!'' NO! But if i see something in shops that really suits me and that i really like and even if it is trendy i'll buy it So i'd say my wardrobe is based on trends but if i like ''old'' trends i won't stop wearing them just because they are not trendy anymore.

Don't follow trends, I can't afford it and I like to wear what I like. The closest I come to wearing something "trendy" are my shoes, I love shoes and I do buy the latest ones out every season. Except F/W, it's perennial summer here so I do mostly sandals and open style shoes.

I agree. I do not have a signature style and I do not think about trends, I buy what I like at that particular moment, sometimes I wear it for 10 years others for a week. I think if we buy something new that we are attracted to there is going to be some element of "trend" there. I buy in the middle of what's available and isn't what's available already a trend?

I own some trendy clothing -- I think it's safe to say that most of us own something that's "in" right now -- but I think it depends more so on how you execute your outfit. You can be creative and add your individual touches, or follow the instructions of a magazine. Personally I think people should go with what they like, but then again hey, some people like trends. I suppose whatever floats your boat.

When I was in highschool I used to follow trends religiously (or try to the best of my ability). I just couldn't cut it. It made me feel restricted and dull, and often, I would get sloppy and just wear what I liked. Essentially though, I was just being young, and afraid to be different. I've realised that the older I get though, that I'm caring less of what others think of me.

i'd like to think only about 25% or less of my closet is based on trends. And even then, most things I have that are now trendy were not when I acquired them, like all the stuff my grandma, aunts, mom and even my dad (hello, vintage Ray Ban men's sunglasses) gave me from back in their day. I like to only have a few trendy items in what I'm wearing (usually shoes and accesories) and keep my main clothes as more of a canvas to decorate... though this isn't always true.

this is like asking...
how much of your wardrobe do you throw away each season...?

if your wardrobe is based on trends...
then as trends change, your wardrobe's gotta change too...

so...
into the trash go all the old trends...right?...
...

does that seem ridiculous to anyone but me?...
......

...

Nope...I agree! I knew ladies who did not want to be seen carrying "last season's shoes or handbags"....only wear a dress once...The trendy items only worn when it is trendy, but luckily since they keep most things and trends come around again....

I think buying things ONLY because they are the current trend is not the greatest reason for buying something. Buy something because you love it and will wear it no matter what. Even if next year people look at you funny because they have moved onto something else, you feel confident in whatever piece it is..

is it even possible to completely avoid trends these days?...
i think it's pretty difficult...frankly...

i'm wondering how many people bought into the whole camel thing this past fall...for example...
it seems like every magazine told us we had to have some camel in our closets...
but i never did buy anything camel...
even though i looked at a lot of stuff and thought about a lot of stuff...
i never did jump on that particular bandwagon...

and i am just wondering how many people here did...?

and what other trends in particular were the ones that people actually decided to try...
