Nara is... wow. The man is brilliant. I went to his lecture at my school, and he speaks like a Zen master. He's very deliberate with what he says, but masks it to seem informal or even simplistic. The way he speaks of the difference between metaphysical flatness and visual flatness; the ways in which history is just rolled over, forgotten... the ability or rationale of functionality...

i need to go see the show again. for the 5th time. his pieces are so strong. like a slap that you totally deserved. they kind of frighten me, like I myself have done something wrong and this child wants to punish me for it, but cannot at this time... but children grow up and can defend themselves then. They like predict a time when I will be rightfully punished and it really terrifies me...


Nara himself is so cool. Fun guy to hang out with, very soft spoken. looks so young. His friend's band, the Tiki Tiki Bamboooos were really interesting to watch in action. Their sound is really interesting. Sort of super-pop meets surfster. i think their lead singer could be more agro in her demeanor though.

and something that I always seem to go back to is Latin dance, specifically Tango, it's so fluid and sensual, but the languorous movements are broken up by harsh, rough movements....I find it very subversive. The beauty that masks the true eroticism of it. Also, the story behind it is so romantic, but in a dark sort of way.
