I think it is a great experience. If nothing else it would give you a fresh outlook on fashion when you start wearing clothes. I wonder if she will go fashion crazy. Imagine not eating sugar for a year or not having sex for a year...

It's a great idea but the actual dress itself is a bit plain no?

when i saw the title of this thread, it reminded me of a friend who spent a year on a buddhist retreat. she wore brown robes the whole time and told me how much freedom she experienced not having to think about what to wear, what to eat and when etc. you just get up, throw on your robe, chant and repeat . . .

![]() Hey, I admire Ms Brown Dress. She designed and made the thing herself, including the pattern, and it's held up for a year just fine--and so has she, apparently. It's even kinda cute in some of the piccies. Not what I would choose to wear for a year but it's a free country. So many people can't stick to what they said they'd do for 5 minutes, so good for her.

It's almost the same thing with school uniforms, isn't it? I mean obviously she wears it 365 days a year instead of 180 school days but it's for the same reasons and has the same idea of not being concerned about what you wear.
Although I wished people who love clothing and fashion would stop being considered as over consuming and always conforming to trends because that is simply not true. |

A fashion sense based on a secure sense of self--even if it's completely hedonistic and wasteful--I can't judge it, no matter the starving babies in the world. But when silly me who's already in debt feels the deep, deep need to possess a wardrobe entirely out-of-bounds in regards to my income--there's a disconnect there, and it is not healthy.

In the one hand i agree with her and i admire her for doing this. But this is a "wake up and don't be a sheep" for trend and label addicts. I love to dress up, it gives me happiness so if i have to live such a life she does, i would be really depressed very soon. And i'm sure i'm not the only one here on Tfs..

Wait? She's standing up against fashion by wearing a brown dress for a whole year?
Isn't she just proving that brown is indeed seasonless? ![]() But in all seriousness, it's slightly ironic coming from a dancer and choreographer...she does not see the self expression that fashion allows both men and women to have. It's not sexist nor degrading (if you dont allow it to be), I just think she's being very closed minded and seeing fashion as just this entity that thrives on the exploitation of trends in order to cash in...
