^ Jennifer Hudson has been looking good, but she's new ...

There's also a "buzz" factor associated with getting on these lists, and the fact that Marjorie has a consistent way of dressing may also help.

Jennifer Hudson rarely misteps (the oscars being the one time). America Ferrera and Sara Ramierez also consistantly look good. The thing is, I think with celebrities stylists are often credited for their looks while socialites get the credit themselves. Therefore, they are more highly regarded by the fashion crowd. I just think that Marjorie's clothes are boring. Its the OdlR/ Carolina Herrera/Tory Birch look and I think it could be so much better.

on another note, Torrid is having an extra 50% off clearance items sale this week. I got a pair of jeans for 7.50

Very good points, although we will agree to disagree because as an older person, I like the OdlR/Herrera/Burch/Blass/Rucci look.
Now maybe I'll have to check Torrid. I saw a very nice turquoise cotton sundress there a couple of weeks ago, but I don't think it's on clearance yet.

I think a big factor in MJR's placement on lists like this is her personality. The profile of her in Vogue a couple of years ago seemed to be more about her personality than her style. My impression is that she's very charismatic in person.

Thinking of another high-profile plussie with the kind of style that the Best Dressed List folks like is a tricky one. Queen Latifah is wonderful when she's not in sweats & trainers. I've also loved Ashley Graham's style this last year but she may not be known well enough.

I first learned of Ashley Graham in the Vogue shape issue. Beautiful young woman, and I did like the piece they did on her and her shopping choices.

I wouldn't call America Ferrera plus-sized by ANY stretch of the imagination (she's probably a 6/8) but she dresses extremely well for not being thin.

She always seems happy and happy with herself--what's not to love about that?

true, but in the celebrity world, she is downright huge.

I saw candids of her, and she has tiny little thighs and arms. She's probably even smaller in sizes because she's only 5'0". My friend is 5'0" and weighs 130 and she wears nothing over a size 4/5.

Is 6 huge in the celebrity world these days? How revoltingly sad for humanity.

There have been a lot of photos in the press with say, Ferreira, Hudson and Tyra Banks all standing side by side sized to look the same height. When you see this it distorts the public's perception of how tall they really are and what size they are. Now, it probably works in favour of Ugly Betty to show Ferreira as a bit chunky, but she is in no way huge in the same way that Hudson could be considered as a size 14, relative to most of the women in Hollywood.

As for Marjorie making the VF list, I think it's a prize for spending the money to try to look good when so many woman don't even bother to try. Not that she succeeds on a regular basis, but the trying is what counts.

Anyone see Christine Alt shilling for 'WomanWithin.com' on ET?? Woman Within is the new name for the Lane Bryant catalog (not to be confused with the stores, which remain completely separate). They showed her being photographed for the catalog, but when you go through the items online they still show them on size 8-10 models, if that. There's only a few headshots of Alt so for me there's no real progress even with her fronting the brand. And she's been out of the biz for too long to be relevant. Emme would have been a better choice IMHO.

I wanted to show an example of what I was talking about re: media distortion of celeb size...culprit is Australian Cosmopolitan, scan is mine.

Remember, Ferreira is 10 INCHES shorter than Hudson! I can't say for sure what size Tyra is but something smells fishy about this photo of her.

Oh - one last thing. Those of you with modern tastes in jeans might want to take a look at Embody Denim. It's a line from an Australian plus size model and even if the price seems high on first glance, it's Australian dollars, which are trading at about 82c US right now.

I have a pair of the Tempt medium-high waist style and they give you a great butt. Warning: when it says low rise on the other styles, it means LOW rise. Think of this brand as extended regular sizing, rather than the usual travesty where 'plus' sizing is concerned. Highly Recommended.

^^ LOL @ that picture. Here she is arriving at the David Letterman show and with her Ugly Betty castmates:

Being 5'0", she would drown in Jennifer Hudson's size 12 clothes. I think it sucks that she's considered huge because she looks like a petite girl who carries weight in her lower midsection, not a plus-size.

I haven't seen many pictures of America in casual attire; I think she looks great.

I just found it a bit funny that America was the petite full-figure representative in Bradley Bayou's book. Bayou's petite plus folks included Lil' Kim (which is sort of surprising), Roseanne Barr (very hit and miss) and Angie Stone.

Off-topic, I rolled to the Nordstrom in Fashion Valley (San Diego) and stopped in Encore yesterday. The Paige Premium Denim jeans had arrived. I usually wear a 16 or 18W. I had to go up to a 22W to get a good fit, so now I'm on the fence.
In better jean news, I found some beautiful INC Woman jeans that were 75% off the original price. They were a dark wash, as I like them, and a size 16W.
