when someone copies you? I mean it took me yeeears and years to develop my own style, and my style is sort of part of my personality, and people recognize and admire me for my style, and suddenly along comes this brat and buys everything, I mean everything I wear/ own!
I know, imitation is the best flattery, bla bla, but its my style!
It's o.k. if a friend of mine occasionally buys something I have, but this girl I know from uni, I've known her for hardly a month and she keeps asking me where I get my stuff, right down to even my writing utensils, and buys the immediately! And it's especially annoying since I am very attached to certain items, such as my belly chain of wearing ties (something you don't see often where I live) and don't want to see them on anyone else! I've even started considering not wearing certain things when I know that I'll see her because I don't want her to go off imitating that too.
Anyone understand why I'm upset?

Hopw all goes well !!

I know how you feel, it is frustrating especially when she is all up in your face with it. She obviously hasn't any imagination(poor thing) and cant seem to create her own style.

Dont be too upset with her, just look at it this way. You obviously are very stylish and she loves that, so remember - If you didn't look great she would not be copying you, annoying as it is!!

Dont tell her where you get your things, tell her some relative sent it from overseas or that you've had it for a little while and can't remember where you bought it.(Sorry i don't mean to encourage you to lie,but i have been there too many times, and had to tell a few porkie pies too!)

I don't know how you could be upset... It's not like you have a copyright on your style. No one is ever original, regardless of how much they say they are. Unless you go to school dressed in cling-wrap and foil... Everyone takes elements of what they deem stylish and makes it a part of their own. Or in other words, style is just copying what happens to be trendy at the moment. So instead of being so pressed about your friend 'stealing' your style, be glad that you're a 'trendsetter' who's doing her part in rubbing off on the fashionably inept.

I know that my style probably isnít that unique, duh, that would be pretty naive and conceited. Itís just that Iíve known her for what, three weeks altogether? And already sheís bought my coat, various make-up items, my bag, my belly chain, and the list goes on. Iím used to people copying my stuff from time to time, thatís ok, after all I canít help doing that myself. But this is not only annoying, since it took me ages to acquire a style that suits me and along comes this brat and achieves the same in a few weeks time, but in a way itís also spooky, I mean it reminds me of this film, Single White Female starring Bridget Fonda (who knows, next sheíll probably kill my boyfriend with her stiletto).
And anyway, I think style has got something to do with personality and would you like it if someone sort of tried to be you?

I understand your problem, been there done that and am a better liar for the experience. Ah yes, does sound very Single White Female, I would suggest you suggest she watches this, just insert a 'have you seen....' into the conversation, no mention of her at all and if it doesn't have any affect on her behaviour I would recommend a confrontation because obviously subtlety ain't gonna be enough. You couldalways take her shopping and make her give her own opinions on things because no doubt otherwise she would just insist you tell her what you like and she buy, but perhaps this isn't an option considering you aren't acquainted all that long. Things like this usually pass quickly however, someone may have insulted her appearances and resulted in her losing her footing and looking elsewhere for inspiration. I suppose I would say handle with care, the symptoms probably runs deeper than they seem.

Just don't tell her where you purchased your things and remain composed no matter how persistent she is good luck with it!

She'll seem to trying hard anyways because it's not her style. Though if she still copies you and forces to wear the same outfit in same events and places wear something she'll never find out where it's from (vintage, etc.).
