I love wearing tights under my dresses when it's too cold or in the evening. If they are opaque I wouldn't mind my dress being a bit short, but I certainly wouldn't wear them by themselves. I draw a very hard line between tights and leggings. To me, everything failing to cover your feet are leggings. I would never wear leggings -especially not the 3/4 ones. Where I am from there has been going an inflation in these over the last few years. People wear them under everything, even under a pretty dress, long and forgiving enough to be worn by itself. To me that is a crime in fashion! It's either nothing or, if it's chilly, thighs - with legs! The one exception is my AA lame leather leggings, but I would be very careful how to wear them. I consider them pants though, like skinny jeans.

Therefore, to me, Kate's way is OK. Lohan's is not.

Agree ... Kate looks great, Lindsay does ... not.

And wiw, that's quite a picture ... those ones with the quilted knees --although it certainly is a tight competition among the three for most

Haha. Ok, I'll run away from this thread soon..

But whyyyyy wear those awful things that cuts your legs in several pieces, when you can wear tights? If people feel they need leggings to hide wobbly thighs or cellulite or whatever, why not wear longer skirts?

wtf lindsay...just when you thought she couldn't get worse she seems to be using star wars costumes and hookers as an inspiration

well, i think that most of you are just comparing this trend to something that lindsay lohan has adopted. i think she's trash, i dont even enter her thread to prevent myself from bashing someone else's opinion of how she dresses, but also, it's not anything new, so i wish people disassociate this with lindsay. look at edie... she did it all the time. and really... who doesn't love edie sedgwick. but from being on this forum, ive come to realize my fashion taste is extremely different than 95% of people here, so it's pretty much vital that i don't take anything personally. i just wish more people would do as me, and wear whatever they want, without worrying about what's in "fashion" or what other people will think of them. aaaaaaaaand back to the topic...

edie had a beautiful body, and she wore tunics with her tights. thus her butt was always covered. its great to wear whatever you want, but running around in your knickers isn't a good look.

i think if a person tries to pull this trend off they have to be very careful about the length and fit of their shirt or tunic. and its not meant for every body either, like skinny jeans. sienna could have pulled this off with the proper top, but her outfit was ridiculous, as was tyra's.

i know this isn't about edie, just me pointing out that she most definetely did not always wear tunics which covered her tush. she was actually known for wearing "black tights, high heels, skimpy tops, and the longest dangling earrings she could get her hands on."

edie was one in a million.... if u try to copy edie, u may look like idiot v. easy.
plus, we are not celebrities, and it does make a difference.

the thing is, if u want to spend your time copying other famous people, then it's like eating someone's leftovers. edie had her style, that made her edie. she was not a copycat, no one should be.

as i said, IMO, if u wear leggings or tights, it looks silly not to cover your behind. and that should be like one fashion rule left... but, that just my opinion.

Tbh, that has always been one of my peeves in regards to dear Edie...
However, unlike Sienna & Lindsay, she still managed to look cool
even with her bottom showing..
But I think she would've looked absolutely amazing
had she substituted those stocking with tight leather cigarette pants
or rly tight cigarette pants in a stretchy blk. fabric...

I just don't see the pressing need to wear tights as pants...
There are too many options...
but diff. strokes, I suppose...

yeah, Edie had something more androgynous going on, you certainly can't compare them.. I believe even Jane Birkin wore tights are pants at some point.. same for transparent blouses out on the street.. I guess the time was more suitable for that.. it still looked brave and different and fairly original.. both the 70s and 80s have passed before our eyes ever since.. we are in body-conscious days where such daring outfits are not really for the sake originality anymore but more like an irresistible chance to show how good your 'booty' looks in it.. and that's where Lindsay, Tyra and Posh spice come for reference.. they're certainly not interested in proportions or whatever, that's why they're not wearing them with a loose white shirt á la sedgwick and no lipstick.. the intention is totally different, they pair them up with tight briefs, a tighter top, heels, that 'fab' glossy lipstick and the 'it' bag their stylist adviced. I honestly applaud anyone who can pull this one off.. but I really it think you have to be extra careful as it very much takes the right amount of everything (from mass to makeup to accesories to even hair) to get away with it and still look somewhat original and not just plain vulgar.

EDIE---
did NOT walk the streets like that...
she had a COAT on outdoors...
that is only at her home or the home of a friend ...

THIS IS exactly where the problem began...
with that stupid sienna edie movie and a bunch of girls not getting it and taking it to the streets...

if you don't understand a style...PLEASE don't try to emulate it...
and btw...

how about coming up with a style of your OWN...
