I know that NYC is the melting pot, etc... I'm going there for my senior trip and I need some guidance on what to wear. The main thing I want to know is what kind of shoes? I know I need some comfy ones (maybe flats or nike air rift?) because I plan to walk everywhere I can. Thanks for any help you can give

Leave the "fanny" pack at home. That's the worst.

Does anyone honestly use those anymore? I mean, most people with any fashion sense wouldn't touch those things.

I was thinking that today I hate those things... A good alternative would be like a messenger bag or something like that

Dress like you would normally dress. Why do people actually need to wear bermuda shorts/fannypacks when abroad?

At least some elder people still wear fannypacks---but they are the same ones who still wear bermudas, Hawaiian shirts & flip flops when outside their country.

It's funny that people keep wearing it, because it is just such a stereotyphe, and EVERYBODY knows it. There can't be anyone who wouldn't!

the london girls are a hearty bunch and seem to be able to walk for miles...

Hardly, I rarely come across cobbled streets but my advice is dress how you want, people probably won't think that you are tourist unless you dress like a sterotypical one.

I think the most important thing is not to call it a 'fanny pack'. That's gonna be a pretty big giveaway in London.

In my experience, I have encounter three rules that should be followed:
  1. The weather dictates your wardrobe and dress.
  2. Do not carry a map around looking confused- no matter what you're wearing. Trust me, my mother's friend was born and raised in Australia, but while showing us around...
  3. And obviously don't dress in the usual tourist gear that's been mentioned by this forum.
