I'm aware that dry cleaners are more reasonably priced in some places. On the upside, tailors and shoe cobblers charge very low rates where I live, so I don't think twice about taking something to get altered.

One piece of advice about dry-cleaned clothes is to remove the plastic bag or sheet it's given to you in, even if you're going to put the garment in storage (use another covering bag). The plastic "locks in" the cleaning chemicals, which aren't good for your clothes.

I tie a knot in the bottom of my dry cleaning bags and reuse them as garbage bags I don't really have much trash as I make a point of buying things that can be recycled and don't buy much processed food ... I definitely don't need those unbreakable Hefty bags

I never had anything that needed to be drycleaned until a year or so ago, but what we do is we take them to a cleaners that charges per-pound, as my mum has a lot of stuff that is dry-clean only. I do admit to wearing some skirts and such that are DCO more than once, as long as they don't stink, so that I can save money in the long run.
