There are thousands of acres being torn down as we type. This leads to the unnecessary death of animals.

Just because they animals are cute doesn't make it wrong. If you stand by that point then its ok to kill the not so cute animals? I dont think so.

THere are Natives up north who provide the furs for the industry and without their hunting they barely have means to feed their families.

Stop all the corporate crimminals, child labour, sweat shops, corporate induced pollution, corrupt governments, drug lords, tobacco selling, those pollution spewing SUVs that americans love to drive, stop the fast food industry from selling future heart attacks then I'll stop wearing my furs.

i don't mind fur. it a completely natural and justified fiber to use. i like the bright colored gucci fur.

but i agree that chinchilla fur does seem a little...well i would feel guilty. any other animal...not so much...maybe.
How is it justified??

I think that our society justifies so many things that are questionable so when it comes to killing animals for fur people group it witht the rest of the questionable things in the world (For example: animal testing, sweatshops, pornography, corprate crimminals, hunting, ...and so on)

I'm NOT saying that its a valid excuse but as a society we have to put our priorities in order and I think little animals should not come before humans.

....

Or it could be justified by the fact that many civilizations of humans depend on fur to stay warm. Or that cavemen would use the pelts of the animal, after consuming the meat, and wear it on their feet, heads, backs, etc.

The only reason why I dont believe in some types of fur, is because I have seen extravagence that is incredibly unneccessary. If you're not wearing it for warmth, you're wearing it as a statement that you have money, and you like fur, or something else to do that degree.

I am strongly against chinchilla pelting. So many animals, that aren't even being used for their meat, for just a coat. Just seems a bit... wrong to me at least.

But to each his own.

Very good points Luna.

We also have to point out that there are many people who live off the earnings of hunting for fur. Many families in Northern Canada are financially stable because of the fur industry. They dont have many options otherwise because other industries aren't very abundant around where they live.

If hunting for fur is illegal then these families suffer greatly (financially)

Why is everyone so again chinchillas being killed? Is there something I dont know?

in our days, i dont htink fur signifies wealth anymore. if i got one, its because i simply like how it loks and feels

I am against it because:

1) I have chinchillas as pets. and I love them dearly.

2) Have you SEEN how many chinchillas it takes to make ANYTHING?

for a floor lenght coat, I'm guessing a few hundred.

interesting debate...while i don't wear fur because i hate it! i think that wearing fur is making a statement...

if i ever wanted to wear fur it would defs be synthetic, it looks the same so i mean why not choose the fake fur and save a few animals...

in the case of leather...well i don't really wear that either, but yeh it would be hypocritical to wear one and be disgust about someone wearing the other.

one thing that does make me sick, is that something could scarfice their life for beauty...and this is in all cases, clothes makers, animals and so on...it's still hard to accept but clothes are clothes and i suppose it's jus a fact of our society.

I have a small fur stole. I think it's rabbit. It's a vintage stole I inherited recently.

Okay, I can't choose. It's wierd, I do not like the idea of fur, you know? I mean, I'm not a PETA fan or anything but I hate knowing that fluffy little animals died to make a coat. But on the other hand, some designers have designed furs I LOVE the look of. I mean, it's so glamourous and can look really dramatic. I can't choose!!!

Some of my favorite furs.......

I own fur...

+ vintage wool coat with a white rabbit fur collar
+ a clutch thats some type of weasel...musrkat or sumtin of that sort
+ another white coat that I have not clue what type of animal it is..I think its rabbit again...

I don't wear fur that wouldn't be eaten anyways...people eat rabbit...people run over muskrat/weasels....so why not make a coat out of what you killed...?
then nothing of what you killed is wasted......

I feel bad for those animals who are just taken for the fur....I love the feel of chinchilla...but those things are way too cute...I'd want it as a pet than a fashion statement...

having that coat would make me feel like I am saying to the world

"ook at me I'm rich and I wanna show it by being a animal killer."

I own a vintage sable & have been wearing various vintage furs since high school. These days, even w/ vintage, it almost feels like you are going out on a limb, like smoking a cigarette. It makes people act like you are a bad girl. Something about that appeals to me for some reason. Also, I just loooove the feel of it. Finding a vintage Chinchilla is my life long dream. So soft.
