There are some gorgeous pieces, but the flower prints in the middle of the collection totally turn me off. Because of the leather dresses the models appear quite large in my opinion and some cuts are very unflattering as well.. Also for the makeup those eyebrows are just way too dark and make the models look like clowns.
He can definitely do better than this!

I really like this. It's sexy, young, fresh and cool. I could easily see myself wearing some of these clothes. Very nice.

I really don't love this. Even though fall didn't wow me at first I ended up really liking quite a few pieces after seeing them in person (the coats and bias cut dresses, mainly). This seems a little low-end by comparison, though I'm not sure why it's coming off that way to me.

And yes, those white cutout shoe-boots are extremely Gucci S/S 01.

Havent seen the entire collection, but love everything so far, the black and white dresses are modern and cool, esp the dress on Arizona, hes definitely as proven himself as not a one hint wonder and this is his best yet imo!

I instantly thought of Tom Ford for Gucci's fantastic shoes from SS 2001 when I saw Altuzarra's shoes. The collection seemed like it was going to be strong basing from the first few images, but then it seems he lost focus the further collection evolved. It is clear that Tom Ford / Carine Roitfeld years are a huge inspiration for him, but he's not doing it that much justice. I have a little hope in him left, though.

Honestly, I don't understand these "hot" young designers these days. Seriously, are these guys designing just so they can reference Tom Ford, Helmut Lang, early Ghesquire?(sp?) it's like they only "believe" in their talent if it's somehow "related" to how they can best interpret past genius.

bottom line is that the clothes on the racks have to sell therefore these "hot" designers have to have restraint when designing in order to be commercial and competitive in the market.

I'm sure Tom Ford, Helmut Lang, Nicolas Ghesquire also were inspired by designers before them and that's the nature of design that it's referential in a way that ideas are re-interpreted, not necessarily copied, but ideas are meant to be made even better.

I think during times when economy is bad and times are less promising because of war and etc. that is the time you see great new ideas coming, but it's not happening right now because of all the illusions, allusions, misinformation, lack of education brought by the mentality of fast phased everything happens fast fast fast with no quality and dedication to hard work.

i completely understand your point, but there are many ways to design a "commercial" and "competitive" collection without blatantly referencing designs from the 90s trend or no trend.

And there is NO excuse for lack of education these days. We have THE INTERNET. And we're not the only people talking about this. There are plenty of people who will talk about these collections and will probably say the same thing.

I'm not undermining these designers, because alot of work and money go into these collections. My point is, you're on this platform where people are paying attention to you, wouldn't it be nice to kind of, I don't know, carve your own path? Create a new language that people would want to speak? Why, when a designer is asked to reign in the ideas and balance the scales between being business minded and being creative, it automatically becomes an exercise of referencing the past? That's quite lazy to me. Why not give yourself the respect and figure out what's your perfect blend of business AND design? That is worthy of a "hot" designer label to me... Proenza is a great example of this, as well as what Theyskens is doing at Theory.

I'm not so crazy about Wang but he did figure it out in a way that balance..FOR HIM, and I can respect that because he is cashing in, but this guy? Come on!
