WoOW, a Hurricane and now this!

I know ALL eyes will be on Balenciaga to see Nicolas's succession.

I know it bust of been Nicolas who wanted to leave, his last collection looked soo odd to me like they was another hand in the cookie jar (or in the creative process).

I can't wat to see whats next for Ghesquiere, will be go off into his own brand or will be creative direct for another fashion house.

John Galliano, Jil Sander, Fendi, Balmain, and Saint Laurent (especially) could use new direction

It's quite a transparent move that'll reveal his motive is to design for his own label.

Good for him.

Well, apart from the SS13 offering, his latest collections were sh*t, so there is a big chance he wasn't making profit for the brand. In addition, I never thought of him as irreplaceable and IMO he's nowhere near Alber Elbaz territory. Let's hope Balenciaga doesn't turn into Ungaro now. Oh and I wish Guesquiere gets his mojo back.

Wow this saddens me. He has made Balenciaga one of my favourite brands.

Very anxious to know who will succeed him. I hope he will continue to design soon.

I can hear the designers in New York crying, terrified because they won't know what to copy now.

I predict Karl leaves Chanel! or Marc leaves LV! The world truly is coming to an end.

Even though I'm not his biggest fan, I think he is a very talented designer and he will be missed

how simply sad. I feel sorry for Balenciaga, as they have lost a true gem

Which could be the best thing that could happen for the fashion world. Those designers have been for too long on the fashion scene...

I am glad Nicolas Ghesquiere leaves Balenciaga and I am one of his biggest supporter. He has been there since 1997. 15 YEARS, it's a long period. Especially nowadays when you have to design all those resort collections and other things related to your label. I am sure we will hear from him when he will be ready. I just don't like to read those "OMG HE IS GONE" comments which are really selfish I think. No one here knows what it is like to be a fashion designer in such a big house. The pressure, the stress etc.

Just be happy guys for all those beautiful collections he created and the innovations he brought to the fashion history. This world is full of upcoming talented designers....

Everyone knows the only thing that's going to make Karl leave Chanel is when he dies. And if Marc leaves LV then they're probably not going to do womenswear anymore.

The latter sounds so amazing...

Unexpected indeed. I think he's ready to move on though.. and has been for several seasons.

This shocked the hell out of me earlier today when I read the news. Paused everything else I was doing. With the other fashion switches, firing and hiring in the past 2 years, there were some rumblings leading up to the announcement. This one came out of the blue, for me anyway.

Like others have said already, good luck to whomever takes the helm next. It will take a true talent to shine in his shadow.
