somewhere in my imagination, i feel that there's some magical place in this world where men go bananas over the colorful fashion put front and center here. in this mythical place, the star print paul smith collection sells out and every 'runway' piece from every menswear collection finds its way onto the backs of a real customer. however, i don't think that place actually exists. and while i find this collection an interesting and fanciful departure for bottega veneta, i'm left scratching my head as to whether much of it'll actually ever get produced and if it does, who would ever buy it?
while the exploded plaids will definitely have some sway -- as they did at dries van noten and lanvin this spring and at prada for women for fall 2010 -- some of the other improvisations simply look dead on arrival. with that said, tomas still crafts a mean shoe for bottega and i do find myself personally interested in those outstanding bags. while only in my imagination may men step out in neon green suits or purple and red jeans, there exists a large swath of men who will happily dole out coin for a must-have bag. especially one of the quality of bottega.
