Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall 2010

Quote:
Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey mined Burberry’s military heritage for the Prorsum pre-fall season with a battalion of weatherproof wool felt coats cinched with chunky belts, leather and shearling aviator jackets, and gabardine trenches. “This collection is anchored in history, and what you’re seeing is a roll-call of Burberry outerwear,” said the designer. “I love mixing different decades *— but using modern fabrics.” He said the brand’s new social networking Web site, artofthetrench.com, got him thinking about the ways Burberry trenches have been worn over the years.

But there are soft edges, too, with Victorian elements, such as silk dresses overlaid with delicate lace and even lace-covered trenches. And Bailey easily brings hard and soft together: Wool sweaters have silky bow-shaped epaulets, while bows and ruffles take the edge off sharply tailored skirts and peplums add flourish to military-inspired suit jackets. Colors range from brooding dark greens and blacks to khaki and nude.

Gorgeously wearable collection for both men and women. Wonderful colour palette and British WW1 military references, though maybe that inspiration is a bit too obvious?
Dying to know what that last red coat is made of.

I wish I could see the pics. Any idea why they aren't visible?

a tad sombre but beautiful nonetheless. loving the trousers and of course, the trench coats. some fabric choices are so classic it's almost boring....but still loving the collection

It's amazing how similar Bailey's collections are season after season. That said, there are some beautiful pieces in here, especially the white coat and the cape.

Belted coats and dresses, again? Seriously? It's not even funny anymore!

The menswear is beyond boring and the womenswear is, well, belted. Bailey might be a brilliant designer but his stylist is stuck in the past of the Prada-belted-jackets-belted-dresses look. The styling does him no favours and it looks dated and recycled.

Heres hoping that the new decade will bring about an aesthetic shift at Burberry without lifting its inspiration from Prada and Balenciaga!
