Good question!

No problem, although, I have to admit I posted the complete collection for mainly selfish reasons, TBH; because I find collections easier to digest when all the pics can be seen in quick succession, for some reason!

Kokoshnik.

I am in love with this collection.
There is majesty and tsars and typical Russian styles but there is also Parisian Art Deco.
All of these things I adore.
I need the video.

The men's stuff is ten times better than the womens stuff imo.

I think I just hate that the women's clothes, though beautifully done, seem like nothing more than an attempt to show off the skills of the ateliers...but very little of it shows that skill off well. The best looks are the simple looks, that long cream dress with black cape, the red coccoon coat and the black and red looks that opened the show.

And as much as I like the headpieces, they're dragging the collection into kitch territory.

I know!! But Chanel has a bad history right now- it's been at least one week + the last couple of shows... I'm really disappointed that Style.com had no detail pictures...

When I think of Chanel, I'm usually so conflicted. The collections often underwhelm me, but I'm blown away by women like Daphne Guinness and Rinko Kikuchi, wearing any of their numerous Chanel gowns. I guess the clothes translate from runway to real(ly privileged) life in a way that I can't visualize, without an engagingly eccentric 'celebrity' personality spoon-feeding it to me. With that said, this is one of my favorite Chanel collections in quite awhile (despite my slightly negative lead-up).
Agreed. Chanel clothes always seem ill-fitting and underwhelming on models, but when you see it on a person wearing it in real life, the full impact of the clothes' beauty hits you like a 2-ton truck.

As for the collection. It is very, very Christian Lacroix. Karl seems to have also taken something else from Christian - this time he hasn't plastered the double-Cs everywhere (I could only find one with a quick glance).
Agreed. Imperial Russia is very ornate, sumptuous, and luxurious, bringing to mind gold and fabulous jewels. It fits right in Lacroix's territory.

Chanel's aesthetic is more minimalist and b&w, which is why I'm pleasantly surprised how well Lagerfeld pulled it off.

I agree. I don't hate the women's stuff...I mean, it is tacky and kind of kitchy, but I think there is some charm to quite a few pieces.

But I really like the menswear...especially the second group.

Also, it's funny that he used only Eastern-European female models but used many American male models!

^Brad's American, isn't he?

And uh, on the non-model talk side of things, this collection is growing on me more and more each day!

I feel as though Karl is making it very clear where he believes his business will be coming from over the next few years, probably less Americans/British/Western buyers.
That said, I adore the Russian headpieces and embroidery, despite the fact that it's been done and dusted by so many other designers.

^^Yes, Brad is American. So is Sean O. I don't know if Jake Davies is either...

Anyway, I guess it wasn't really "many" like I said...

(sorry for the model talk...I know this isn't the appropriate thread for this stuff.)

It took me a while to digest this but I've decided that I really do like it (although my Russian sympathies may have influenced my opinion greatly). I love the sumptuousness of the clothing although I also wish the background would've been simpler--I feel overwhelmed enough by the opulent looks.
Overall, a fantastic interpretation of old world luxury in Tsarist Russia, I think.
And, I need to get me those onion-shaped heels--rob a few banks??

(Where would I be able to get a list of all Russia-inspired collections--like ever?)
