Dior announced today that it would be showing John Galliano's latest couture confections in its own headquarters at 30 Avenue Montaigne for the first time in a decade. The Fall 2009 presentation takes place on July 6, with one show for clients and another for press; the past few seasons, Dior has erected a tent in the gardens of the Rodin Museum for couture shows.

CEO Sidney Toledano denied that the change had anything to do with cost-cutting, but rather was a move to underscore the brand's heritage: “We want to do it in this house again to feel at Dior. We really want to transport the spirit."

A statement like that is hard to believe after the hoopla surrounding today's Dior Cruise 2010 show — which was nonexistent, compared to its counterpart last year, with its full-blown runway production and front row packed with the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Charlize Theron. The Cruise 2010 collection, as seen below, was inspired by Christian Dior's muse, Mitzah Bricard, and her favorite accessories — pearls, turbans, and stilettos.

I hate the vulgar use of leopard print, especially on the lapels of that lilac jacket. Shoes look sexy, the leopard bag is absolutely hideous. It just looks very dated and moth-balls.

I am also sick of seeing that dark lipstick every time Galliano wants to do something 'chic' and austere. The very last gown looks quite amateurish, and doesn't even look good on the model.

Some of the individual accessory pieces look nice like the shades, fur shawl, gloves and shoes in the 3rd to last photo, but the actual garments. The animal print is way tacky, I like animal print in small moderation but this is just overflow!
I'm not really a fan of the "Cruella de Vil sans white hair" makeup either.

It's terrible, really. Dior is over. I think I've finally accepted it. I mean, John has been doing the exact same collection for the house for the last 4 years now. This is just another silly, insipid collection of "smart" day suits and "chic" cocktail dresses.

John used to dress the brash, modern woman. Now he dresses the woman who lived 50 years ago.

I know... I am really sorry for what Galliano has become lately. One or two gorgeous looks every season, but is that enough? The worst is what happened to the Dior accessories though. Once Dior created the chicest and really fierce looking bags, jewelry and shoes, and now they look so cheap and tacky, it is not understandable.

I wonder if LVMH is keeping Dior's accessories on the DL to help LV sell even more and more bags. But that sounds unlikely and very cruel, if true.

Not bad, not great. It kind of ranks with most other cruise collections this year. Snore-fest.

That is perhaps the worst leopard print I have ever seen in my life.

Too tacky for words. And how can Galliano look at that lilac jacket with those lapels and think that the Dior woman deserves something this hideous?!?!? It is beyond belief, if you ask me. He has consistently displayed some truly questionable items borderline tasteless and gaudy throughout his career, but most of his leopard creations take the cake if you ask me.
