Lovely documentary It's always interesting to see the process of the furs and accessories to the casting of the models to the venue. Can't wait for the others!

It was so great getting to see how Karl is at Fendi. At Chanel there's just so much history and weight upon the house itself that there's this almost reverent feeling to what goes on there, or at least that's how it always seems. Fendi seems much more warm, like a big Italian family (which in a way, it is).

I know that it only focused on the few days leading up to the show, but I wish there was more time spent in the fur atelier. Getting an in depth look at the work that goes on there would be amazing I'm sure.

The French director Loļc Prigent admits it was laziness that prompted him to film Karl Lagerfeld, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel (left) and Proenza Schouler during the 36 hours leading up to their fall 2009 fashion shows. (In Mr. Gaultier’s case, it is his couture show.) “In the past, I’ve followed designers around for six months,” Mr. Prigent explained. “This time, I wanted something easy to edit.”
Which is not to say that “The Day Before,” his four-part series that will have its premiere on Sept. 9, isn’t rich in material: there is the panic at Proenza Schouler at having to re-sew a velvet dress just as it’s about to appear on the runway; the look on everyone’s face as Ms. Rykiel stumbles upon the “secret room” housing preparations for her surprise 40th-anniversary tribute show; the 1 a.m. collective nervous breakdown at Fendi, as loopy design assistants stage a comical fashion show of their own, an amused Mr. Lagerfeld snapping photos from the sideline. “Most people don’t know the truth about the fashion world,” Mr. Prigent said. “I’m trying to show it, and it’s hysterical.”
“The Day Before” begins Sept. 9 at 10 p.m. on the Sundance Channel.

Thank you for uploading the documentary, Symetrie!

I love documentary! Karl seems like a hilarious person in real life. And the atmosphere in Fendi wasn't what I expectedl; it was warm and very familial Plus Heidi and Edita kissing up to him,

For some reason I can't give you karma! but this comment deserved some!
a beautiful sketch of the ligne K indeed! just like when dior did a letter for the line every season

So he has full control design-wise, but little involvement in any of the other steps. But, considering the consistant quality of the collections, I guess it works.
It does work!! And then he is the photographer for the campaigns and all so he does seem "involved" in the process. My fear was that he'd just show up to style, edit (or cancel) Silvia's designs.I'm glad to see the sketches are his own as always!
Madame martine, cecile et jacqueline chez chanel
Anita at Karl Lagerfeld (now retired)
and Ana Calabrese at Fendi!

the whole family of premičres!!

very surprised and intrigued by Silvia's personality! very intrigued by Lady Harlech too. My personal favourite, at the very end of the first fitting when she starts screaming and clapping "GENIUS! GENIUS!" too good!

I don't think I've ever been as excited during watching something fashion related as this.
I adored the show, and luckily there has been a steady tide of information that I can absorb about it - I have only grown to love the collection more and more.
Silvia was telling Anna Wintour about the one piece I found most interesting when I saw the clothes in front of me - the felt on silk dress.
When the first model was about to go onto the runway I genuinely felt her nerves and hated the fact that I knew she was about to stumble (though noone mentioned it during the episode).
Watching this has booted my enthusiasm for fashion design up the backside and that incredible excitement of seeing pieces you've designed become reality has been renewed. I also crave the power to make the choices like Lagerfeld - it is my work and my taste and it is good: you will know that I was right when it is finished.
I relate a lot to Lagerfeld and most things he says I agree with or relate to; I admire him and would count him as one of my heroes, even if it is just for his sheer ability to do so much work tirelessly and be constantly inspired and be constantly new. I aspire to be the next Lagerfeld.
