Rei Kawakubo

1. There is no R sound in Japanese. R sounds like L:
2. U sounds like the u in chute: "oo"
3. O is flat like in open

l-eh-ee
Kah-Wah-Ku-Bo

Is the best I could do phonetically.

Issey Miyake

I suspect and believe I read somewhere Miyake changed his name to Issey to make it easier for westerners to pronounce. There's really no way I can think of to write that name using the Japanese vowel consanant combonation. I figure it was originally Isei.

Anyway, Miyake in a Japanese pronouciation is:

Me-Yah-Keh

Junya Watanabe

Junya. The "Jun" sounds like the month June so it would be:

Joon-Yah

Watanabe. N sound is sort of weird to explain. It's sort of a short "n" sound that you would hear at the begining of the word no or nah.

Wah-Tah-Na-Beh

Proenza Schouler

This girl that was in my class started hanging out with one of the guys sister and she said that it's actually pronounced like: Schooler/Skool-Er. I still don't know which is right for sure.

Thanks morning star though I think I'm still going to pronounce rei wrong.

As for Schouler I've done some thinking about this and it really depends whether the last name is German or Italian. If it's german, it's shoe-ler, if it's italian, it's skoo-ler. I think it acceptable to pronounce them either way.

Actually I believe the correct pronunciation is Lon-van with very little enphasis on the second N....could be wrong though.

For more Lanvin suggestions, go back and read the rest of this thread. It has already been covered quite a bit. : )
