I like that Luckyme ... "you feel ...", because that's really what clothing is about, evoking feelings, sensations, ideas etc. not just visually, but also within matter, within it's materiality, when you wear it, when it touches you ... how it aesthetically touches you. You're right about Junya, it's another feeling compared to Dries, but it's something as special ...

has anyone keyed in on any pieces that they must have for fall out of this collection? I know its early but with all the press in vogue and the fact that he is becoming more "popular" I wanted to make sure I got what I wanted next season.

I just spoke with my sales associate and reserved these items. in some cases the colors have changed.

style.com

coat/jacket is more of a dark distressed material without the paisley print and inside is a rich green.
the harem pant in black wool, very junya to me
the "monkey" sweater is navy and olive/grey
the dress has got me so excited and it's those colors too
the chunky scarf in dark cherry

Lucky you for sure luckyme! Sounds so lovely

Is your SA sending you photos of the pieces in the different materials? Or are you going off visualization? It sounds even better than what's pictured

thanks curious and ilaughead. sadly, no pictures coming, she isnt handy with email but is great at describing in length the details. I cant' wait to see that coat in distressed charcoal with the green. I think the scarf in dark cherry is even better than standard ole' black and I love black everything. One thing about Dries is he has an amazing knack for getting colors that are ravishing.

anyone else thinking about his fall line yet? I know its early but the orders are in.

Read an itw of Dries yesterday.
A few points
*Concerning the collection, he said he has become too literal in his retranscription of his memories (his trips, etc, and the whole "ethnic" thing) so that he wanted a fresh new collection, with more subtle hits at his references. Besides, he said he wanted to do more techno fabrics, just like Jil used to do.
*His new store is now opened in paris, his second one after the Het Modepaleis in Antwerp. Don't know if this has been discussed, but here it is. A men's store in Paris is soon to be opened too!
*He's such a quiet man, saying he prefered spending his time with his boyfriend or his roses than going to parties. And he seems to be a good businessman, or at least he admits he's fascinated by the construction of a brand, etc while some other prefer focus on the design, and leave the financial aspect to someone who is close to them.

Dries's father owned a boutique didn't he? I'm sure some of his interest in the business side stemmed from him. It's interesting to see which designers care about the commercial part, while others seem blissfully unaware that there clothes will ever be sold and worn off the runway.

I'd love to read the interview too
I am really curious about the techno fabrics, if he talks more about them.

Nice choices, luckyme!

I apologize for the late report, but I did go to the trunk show...saw the monkey sweater and it's gorgeous! Very decently priced for what it is as well.
I also want those pants (Barney's didn't buy them)...apparently they have a double waistband, and the top layer sort of droops...very cool!
They didn't have the dress you chose either, but I tried on a top in a very similar style, which made me look like a mountain. The other style of dress with the draped neckline is more flattering, imo, and will come in lots of colors and patterns.
There were no accessories to see, only pictures of the shoes, which are just ok--a bit boring. But the chunky scarf in cherry sounds great.
The techno fabrics looked wonderful, and many of them are embroidered, which is a lovely combination...I don't know much about them though , sorry Gius.
Many of the skirts are a lot less voluminous and will run truer to size, as they are cut more narrowly (the sari-style, the one with with knit hem). So I am hoping I might actually be able to wear a 36. Although the girl from Dries told me this collection is really all about the dresses and tops...so those are the things to buy.
I also tried on this dress and it is absolutely spectacular on the body.

laika, thanks so much. I've been dying to hear your impressions since you went to the trunk show. I heard the techno fabrics are light, airy and fold up into little packages. I think those will be great in jackets but I don't know about the scarf. The knit skirt intrigues me and the sari-style is a carry over from previous seasons, right? I love that dress you chose, it seems to be incredibly flattering on a woman.

luckyme - incredible choices! I love everything, esp the dress (in love with the print) and the sweater (which I'm also hoping to get). I personally really love the sarong style skirt in same (?) pattern:

laika - thanks so much for the trunk show report. The pants do sound really cool! You can see some of that detail in this pic

both pictures from elle.com

You're both welcome! And thanks for the pics, tourist!

he's definitely done sari-inspired stuff before--i wanted to post pics, but I can't find what I was looking for...But Barney's will also have that skirt in jersey and in a menswear fabric. I think it looks so cool with a men's style shirt tucked in, or with a little jacket.
I definitely think the scarf will be better in the chunky knit, and I love the handmade quality of that contrasted with the more industrial fabrics.

tourist, what other pieces do you like?
