I usually love Dries but this is way too much Marilyn.

^^^ I wish Marilyn was the only problem here. This is just not a strong collection at all.

The silhouette is rather throwaway trendiness that's in tune with what everyone else is doing-- although, even if I may not like it, Dries does do it better than everyone else. I've always hated the billowy short-sleeve that's not quite a short-sleeve and the paperbag clinch-waisted pant. I don't know anyone that looks good in such a proposed silhouette-- men or women. And just because it's coming from a master like Dries, doesn't get an automatic pass. Neither do some of those pattern-mad shirts that have a hint of vintage Versace complete with leopard print and palm leaves.

Gaudy is gaudy, I don't care who's doing it.

Personally I love this, not only because I need (legitimately, need) one of the Marilyn pieces, but also because the whole Dries does Versace in Miami vibe is kind of an interesting angle to take while playing with his signatures. Some of the printed shirts are really quite fun, although the toned down color palette also makes them a bit more approachable than the Versace prints of yore. And maybe it's because it's been so hot out, but the prospect of wearing some billowing separates is very appealing to me.

As an aside, not many designers could show a pair of blood red sequined joggers and make me not only like them, but want them very badly.

The Marilyn Monroe stuff reminds me of Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009. I still like this a lot though. Would wear a great deal of this.

Some of his typical ornate detailing I saw on style.com are quite good but this is far from his best work.

LOL Oh yes-- I did notice and closed in on and got lost in those crimson sequined joggers... They have that looks so wrong but feels so right attraction to me. Wished the collection had more of this decadence: Good Dries Gone Bad.
