Obviously he keeps his best ideas to the.. gentlemen, and for womenswear? some gigantic tulip in some shiny volume.

I feel like Dries has not been evolving. There's nothing surprising or inventive here, and it's not adding anything to the Dries vocabulary...same tune.

That red velvet bomber with the gold peacock more than makes up for the rest of the clothes which, while not bad by any means, are a little less rich than I'd expect from him.

Who buys his menswear? Is it popular?

^^^ I do.

Maybe not this time. Some interesting offerings, but nothing that I’m drawn to. This collection is too much on the opulent-night-at-the-opium-den for my taste.

I thought he must have done the snake pattern before, but he hasn't in the recent history. It takes more time than usual for me to get the flavor out of it, maybe it's the golden colors, military versus royalty theme, or the wings he's been doing so many times. But these still are clothes I can imagine to look stellar when transformed on the street.

Can designers stop making velvet happen? Utterly bored to even give a side eye.

I definitely do. It's certainly not as popular as Saint Laurent or Gucci, but he is definitely a favorite for many.

With that said, I do this think collection is repetitive and almost like the looks that didn't make it into last autumn's show. It's certainly nice and I love a lot of the pieces (especially that blue and purple bomber with the snake or the printed suit with the fur collar). But he needs to move on from the opulence and ostensibly "Eastern" inspiration because it's getting a little stale.

I did, when it was available at one of the clothing stores here. But then the Barney's here picked it up instead, and their buy isn't as strong, so I haven't in a while.

I'm on the fence about this collection. There's some good pieces here & there, but hell, I'm sure if I bothered to look hard enough, I could find good pieces here & there in the SLP, Gucci, and Valentino collections, none of which I like. And what I do like, well, it's standard Dries fare that his customer most likely already has.

I'm going to chalk up what I don't like as simply a miss in this season's styling exercise. Get rid of those long-johns & shorts (skirts?), and throw on some pants, and maybe I'll enjoy it more.

The footwear, however, looks very sweet.
