Elsa Schiaparelli brand to be revived
Quote:
She was an international icon, one of the designers who made fashion history: Elsa Schiaparelli, the couturier from Rome who died in 1973, is back in the spotlight not only with the New York exhibition Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, but also as a fashion label. The brand was bought in 2007 by Diego Della Valle, who wants to return it to its former glory.

The Maison Schiaparelli will be opened in Plâce Vendome in June during Paris Fashion Week, with the atelier being housed in the same building that the designer lived in during the 30s and 40s. That was when Schiaparelli at the height of her revolutionary success – revolutionary thanks to the modernity of her ideas – and the aim is to revisit these in a contemporary style. “Schiapparelli, with its exceptional, truly exclusive designs, is already an inspiration for great designers. Now the brand is making a comeback and will become a true icon for the future. This will be a close, but very modern, interpretation, with the aim of bringing back the brand’s ‘dream’ and all its modernity. We won’t be chasing the commercialism of the fashion world: this is a project that aims for the best in terms of taste and quality, and will provide all the calm necessary to achieve that,” Diego Della Valle has said.

Meanwhile there are two possible candidates for artistic director: John Galliano, who recently contradicted the rumours, and Rodolfo Paglialunga, the former creative director of Vionnet, who has also worked for Prada.

People deny rumors all the time, especially when contracts are negotiated. (think Hedi for YSL) lets just keep up the dreaming.

It's been long rumored John may be going to Schiaparelli and It wouldn't surprise me, I think it would give them a lot of publicity, good and bad, but all publicity is good publicity, no ?

Not when your employment and reputation depend on it. Mr. Galliano and anybody else who "fell from grace" as a result of bad publicity can tell you this.

Isn't that the cycle though? You do something naughty, get a slap on the wrist, recompense and get back on your horse? I mean how many celeb's and figureheads have taken this route? I second the no publicity is bad publicity---it only depends on what you do with it.

This doesn't really sound like a job they're going to give to John Galliano.

Sounds like the want to make it a demi-couture brand, that statement "We won’t be chasing the commercialism of the fashion world: this is a project that aims for the best in terms of taste and quality, and will provide all the calm necessary to achieve that..." Reminds me of Rochas, which makes me wish Olivier was taking the helm

But my vote is on John, I never liked what Rodolfo did for Vionnet
