There is something really incongruous about Fendi, this European brand, showing on the steps of The Great Wall of China, which is about ancient China and imperial dynasties and so on and so forth.

I"m surprised the government allowed it.

And why are they doing this show now and here? It's so out of the blue.

if i may respectfully disagree, i think you have idealized the chinese, especially how the government approaches historical landmarks (which is at best haphazard). i don't think it's too big of a deal for a fashion show to be there. even survivor got to film in china. money and publicity talk.

*edited--no celeb pics in designers & collections*

^someone told it... it's to introduce Fendi to the Chinese Market....
I thought it was just for the opening of a flagshop...
Anyway, I totaly forget Fendi belongs to Bernard-Arnault (he's there with his wife...) so I'm def. NOT surprised they are doing this...
for those who saw the Marc Jacobs doc', it's well explained about a similar show for Vuitton in Japan...

it was a long time project.... from july 2007 on vogue.fr

(4 juillet 2007)
Bernard-Arnault wants to do an italian Louis Vuitton with Fendi...
and in this news, they said it was supposed to be on live on internet....

But they also said Karl was supposed to create about 100 outfits for this event...
Well, most of this is from the ss08 collection, but I guess he add some new stuff...

though i like the idea of east meet west, west meet east, commercializing the wonder of the worlds is just too MUCH. As if the great wall isn't too commecial with the stalls and shops on it.
China govt closed Starbucks in the Forbidden Palace, this time they allow Fendi on Great Wall. I bet Fendi made a damn good offer for China to refuse.

What's next?? Catwalk in the pyramid???

incredible location (money, power, connections will get you anywhere i guess) and a great idea but the clothes themselves are underwhelming. boring. old fashioned.
