I'm curious, why is it that everybody else always needs to open their eyes and you're the only one seeing things clearly, smiths?
You can't blame me for wondering.

UHU GARATH PUGH!
this is the best! he made a lot of things actually wearable. i always enjoy his shows, but this one is a lot more toned down. so i like it in a whole different way... i love this.

could we please move on, right now ..... ![]() i support gareth since his debuts in LFW .... but there, i just don't understand why the buzz is working .... it's the same than in london but in white and in more casual to get sold - if i can say that. + i don't get people saying it's not wearable .... who cares ? he's not this kind of person .... you know it, now .... non ? i find it funny that gareth is taking the McQueen's favourite inspiration but turned it into his vocabulary .... i like it. but i just don't understand why people like it now, when past season everyone was saying it wasn't fresh anymore ...... ![]() he came to paris to sell and get introduced to big houses and fashion editors, i guess .... and i hope it will work for him. ![]() |

Yes, isn't it funny how bad clothes can morph into beautiful clothes when crossing the Channel?
I think it is quite nice to see him in Paris though. This way other young designers in LFW don't get so overshadowed by him. Truth to be told, I think Gareth Pugh has pretty much shown the same things season after season. Most of it could be from the same collection. Of course continuity and staying true to one's style and aesthetic are great, but when it gets to the point where collections are hard to tell apart, it is too much. Now, I don't like the shiny fabrics, but I am a sucker for Elizabethan influence, and thus I like some of the pieces very much. Surprisingly much! I see more potential in this than in his previous collections. Although it is still very much the same as in London, there's a hint of change. Perhaps he is going through a sort of evolution, kickstarted by coming to Paris. I would love to see video material of this. |

first i was wow but after seeing the catwalking pics... as someone mentioned its quite toned down, its the color too, i guess, i associate him with black and now this... some pieces (my favs on natalia chabanenko) are ok but generally its awfully BORING and predictable, i see no future in it, nor past, its just desperately trying to squeeze a sensation out of something that has been recycled million times already.

this collection is a lot obviously different from previous seasons.
this is surprisingly fantastic collection. a lot of the pieces are less costume and more just clothes. surely the color palette hasnt change much and some of his trademarks is still there but compared to other designers, this is different. there was a good balance of 'wearable' clothes and editorial pieces that im sure will show up in magazines very soon. his style is just right for the time...maybe if he came into this field 10 years ago or 10 years later he probably wont get this much publicity.

Pugh Has Strong Support in Paris
Pugh Has Strong Support in Paris by WWD Staff Posted Sunday September 28, 2008 From WWD.COM WINNIE THE PUGH: Though relishing her role as ambassador for Armani jeans, Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles wore a black lace mini dress by Zara for her front-row appearance at Gareth Pugh on Saturday in Paris. “The belt and shoes are Armani,” the singer-songwriter hastened to add. Knowles said she became a fan of Pugh while researching outfits for her latest video. “I didn’t end up wearing it because I couldn’t get a contact but now that I’m here, I’m definitely gonna steal some things.” Suzy Menkes' granddaughters appear to already be in training for future fashion editor positions. Six-year-old Jessica, who showed neighboring editors her new gold shoes, and four-year-old Claudia, accompanied their granny to the Pugh show and were initially frightened by the death-metal intro. Also at the show was fellow designer Rick Owens, who said he's showcasing a line of jewelry by Jordan Askill in his Palais Royal store during Paris Fashion Week. "I showed him how to make black versions of his oxidized silver pieces using a chemical process," said Owens of the line that includes a diving swallow and a rose bud. |

I can see the Hamlet and Elizabeth references in the collars and structures around the shoulders but that's about it. For the rest I see Stormtroopers gone Metropolis' architecture, which I just love. With the possibility of starting a riot, is he the new Thierry?

I find this an extremely refreshing collection. Yes he has reused ideas, but he has developed them, which is what being an original designer is all about. I find the clothing extremely adaptable and taking away perhaps some of the more gimmicky pieces you have a beautifully abstract and tailored collection ideal for editorials and buyers alike. I still find it hard to understand his move to Paris, as far as I can see he attracted a less influentcial audience than that of London, considering he was showing on the first day of the Paris schedule. I'm just hoping he doesn't do a McQueen and join a soul destroying conglomerate, who rinses his talent for the sake of an it bag! Gareth Come Home!!!

i think the idea that Gareth is supposed to be considered very avant-garde confronts the fact that he is consistently repetitive in his work i dont think any other designer could "afford" to do that... so if people are still praising him despite of that, he must have done something right, no? ![]() i wanna see videos of this, editorials of this, maybe a couple of stars wearing this.... and then i think we'll have enough to see where he really is going
