This is one of the worst I have seen from Tisci - a bit of Christopher Kane, a bit of old YSL, a bit of Miu Miu....ugh!

I had high hopes for Givenchy this season. Riccardo failed me this time. Bad.

Looking through this collection is a bit like listening to someone tell a joke that they clearly think will be hilarious only to have the punchline fall flat. I mean I really did try to find something better to say about this collection but all I could really come up with was that it's pretty stupid looking. It just comes off as a really calculated attempt at being cool, and street, and avant garde although in truth it's not really any of those things.

give me a break. there exists no fashion house of this caliber that does not vacilate between the self-serious and the carefree in the way that givenchy has done here. chanel gives us breathtaking tear jerking beauty one season and hot pants and biker boots the next. miuccia prada gives us ruffled below-the-knee dresses and kitten heels ones season and monkey prints and platform brogues the next. no fashion customer wants the same thing all the time. the skill level and the creative quotient of a designer remains not in how frequently that designer can turn out the same thing in the same way, but in how many different things that designer can turn out spectacularly.

nicolas ghesquiere, similarly, put out a collection with black felines -- spring/summer 2003 i want to say -- and has an infamous dog sweater. but he still can turn out clothes that put every single designer to shame. fashion doesn't always have to be serious, it just has to resonate with its audience. and given all of the uproar in this forum, this collection definitely had a great impact, and given how well cut these clothes are, i can guarantee they'll make their way onto the backs of very fashionable women. he already courts a mightily brave client who marches to the beat of her own drummer so it makes sense that she would appreciate something that's not on-trend and not repetitive. so i give him credit not only for carrying an idea through from start -- the menswear -- to finish, but for not shying away from challenging his customer with something new. only the best of designers can do that and he's firmly putting himself in that number.

i can't wait to see how the truly fashionable fold these unexpected pieces into their spectacular wardrobes.

Perhaps he's hinting that he'll be doing the costuming for Anne Hathaway in the new Batman movie? Catwoman . . .

I thought the final prints were quite magical (irises?) and it is quite a feat to pull off geek-chic and smoldering sexiness as he does in some of the looks. There is a carnality here (typified in the cats) matched equally with humour.

This is not dramatic.
This is not demi-couture.
This is not Tisci/Givenchy.

Big disappointment!
