I can't say I understand why people are dying over this.

Sure, it's chic, the ruff-pleated pieces are beautifully done and flawless looking, and those majorly flounced black skirts that opened are cool, but a lot of this is kind of flat and even slightly lazy looking in terms of execution. It doesn't have the tortured, bristlingly confident newness of his early stuff, nor does it have the overwhelmingly beautiful intricacy and drama of his more recent stuff.

Without those things it comes off as kind of sub-par for couture. Does anyone really need a $20,000 pair of skinny pants?

^ It seems like most people don't seem too thrilled with it (rightfully so, imo). I like a few pieces of course... but overall it's the same old, really.

btw - I don't mean that to sound so negative if it does... it's not bad but I would have liked to have seen it a bit more experimental and less of what we'd expect.

After looking at the whole collection, it looks very ready-to-wear/ pret-a-porter...

even if it isn's as exciting as some of his other collections spike...
it still doesn't suck...

maybe some people aren't as familiar with his previous work as yuou are so they don't really see/feel what's missing...

*he's still very new to couture...
i think it's fair for him to expand and explore certain ideas...
they all do that to a certain extent...
it's important in the evolution of a brand/label

*however-
i must say that the one beige gown towards the end with the bumps etc...
is also reminiscent of Comme - just as the giant RUFFS are reminiscent of Junya...
and that dress is just god-awful...

i have seen a few experimental / interesting things he's done in the past
playing around with materials and shape
though seeing the collection as a whole now i still think it's quite nice

there's a strictness that reminds me of Nicholas Ghesquiere... especially in the white looks... or black looks... or black+white

I totally agree with you, Spike. It is incredibly redundant. I srsly can't fathom it... is it laziness? Lack of inspiration? So odd, esp. since Tisci is undeniably talented and brimming with creativity. The collections released under his own namesake were never so repetitious even.

Sure it is aesthetically pleasing and well-done craftsmanship wise, but this is couture. This is supposed to be sublime, ethereal, exciting, engaging, modern... not simply 'just so' or 'pretty'... mediocre in my book, tbh. Anyone can do 'pretty' for the most part...

I absolutely adore Tisci so this is rather depressing.... I'd srsly rather hate it than be completely neutral towards it...

I'm not usually a big fan of Tisci, but I'm actually quite fond of a few pieces in this collection. I love this for not being as moody as it usually is. I'm a sucker for the cut and layers of Ali's jacket, it's a gorgeous piece. Plus, the dresses towards the end are so delicate and exquisite.

Wow, what a beautiful collection! That is what haute couture should look like in 2008. Rather than referencing looks that are 60 years old or looking back at past decades, this collection looks toward the future or at least the present. Bigger doesn't have to be better, the beauty is in the simplicity.
