i agree with you guys when you say that it doesn't seem all that '...haute.
but softgrey helped me out ( ) in saying that he's new to couture, and as i'm not as familiar with givenchy..that sort of helped me get it.

its beautiful, no doubt about it, and has got the givenchy 'look' but it's just pretty ruffly blouses and pants that could also (for the most part) be rtw.

Sure, it's chic, the ruff-pleated pieces are beautifully done and flawless looking, and those majorly flounced black skirts that opened are cool, but a lot of this is kind of flat and even slightly lazy looking in terms of execution. It doesn't have the tortured, bristlingly confident newness of his early stuff, nor does it have the overwhelmingly beautiful intricacy and drama of his more recent stuff.

Without those things it comes off as kind of sub-par for couture. Does anyone really need a $20,000 pair of skinny pants?

i couldnt have said it better myself. agree 100%

Echoing everyone else, this is very repetitive. It seems he took all of his hit ideas of the past couple of years, made them more wearable, and sent them all back down the catwalk.

Agreed about the RTW thing. They must be cheating the system, because there is no way some of those pieces could take three fittings.

I don't really like the first ten outfits or so... but I like the red color incorporated in the garmet design.

style.it

this one is fabulous, lovely string of red color!

A McQueen or Baleciaga RTW look more couture then this!! I really want this guy to do well. But you know what, even if this doesn't fly at all, Tisci is still a better person for the job then that Julien dude!! Period!

Well...I love it. However, I'm a bit disappointed with Tisci. Like so many before have mentioned, this seems like a greatest hits collection, simply a rehash of previously designed garments (albeit gorgeous ones).

I really felt like he was evolving so well, and I've loved every one of his couture shows, and this is no exception, I just feel like this is a regression (actually, more like stagnation) than anything else. I felt that his FW 06, SS 07 and FW 07 shows really evolved and developed so well into the next. This show just seems like a show that should have been sent out in the 2006 period of his career.

I still think there are some incredibly chic pieces and I LOVE the set!

I agree with Spike, that this is very chic, but nothing to write home about. In addition to some rehashing of past looks, the whole presentation just lacks the dark, space-y mood that made me fall in love with Tisci's Givenchy. I love the rigorous black suit-ed pieces and the crystal embellished jacket and dress, but it all seems very lazily put together and conceived. I expected the whole package to be a bit more poetic, melancholy with some sci-fi/goth romanticism.

Technically it's does not meet all the requirements to be considered couture (AFAIK) but like I mentionned in another thread, all the HC-season collections I really like aren't really HC.

i totally agree with spike in his comparison of this and dior HC...
this isn't bad by any means, it's just been done...
by tisci, a few seasons ago...

the major difference i see between this and dior is that dior at least looks like a couture show...
this looks like givenchy rtw (or mcqueen rtw)...

soft...i understand that designers need to explore/expand certain ideas...
but i don't see it here...it seems very weak...

that being said, i do love the white dress on magdelena and the long asymetrical hem gown on colette...

Wait, I'm stupid; Givenchy is recognized by la chambre syndicale as a full couture house. I still like it although, yeah, there's nothing too innovative for Tisci to be seen here.
