I can believe that this was it. It was incredibly dull, the only thing I liked was the shoes and it looked like a Zara or Mango lookbook instead of a Gucci one.

Chanel in many ways does represent a name incredibly prestigious, but Gucci and Chanel are completely different as brands and DNA. Chanel is a fashion brand: based on the image and eternal influence of Coco. It is not a leather-goods company. It is meant to sell clothes, even though they earn a lot more money from cosmetics and accessories obviously. Its competition are the names like Dior, YSL. Even Armani is much bigger, due to its many diffusion lines etc. (Armani is a fashion brand in its core like Chanel) Gucci, on the other hand, is a strict leather-goods company. It sells products - goods. Even Tom Ford didn't sell that many clothes, or I should say as much as their accessories. That is what they are known for. Guccio Gucci's vision and stance in luxury was not the same as a creative fashion designer like Coco, Dior, or Gianni. He was like Louis Vuitton in that sense. I bet Gucci will remain huge as a name, because their growth is unstoppable. They do still represent a huge wealth, with their massive stores and shiny surfaces that impress the newcomers to the luxury industry. Yes, the brand owes sooo much to Tom Ford, because he was the person who put the name Gucci on the map and in people's minds. The younger customers who love and buy Gucci this much are the people who saw their moms and sisters buy this brand just a few years ago when Tom was at the helm. And that name and recognition does create a sense of loyalty. On the other hand, no other brand, including LV and Armani, even Ralph Lauren, spends as much money as Gucci for print advertising. Gucci single-handedly supplies for many many editors' fees and paycheck every month. That is how they reach people. When you have resources that great, it is very hard to compete with you. Chanel is still a privately owned company, more or less. It is a huge name in luxury, but cannot be compared to the likes of LV, RL, Armani, and Gucci. pasha do you work for Gucci because your like showering ridiculous amounts of praises on Gucci and acting like its invincible ...its not...just look at history .........it was a huge brand in the 70s and by the 80s it was near bankrupt.......never say never in fashion , sure its status quo is fine but I was there when gucci was a huge brand and when it crashed.

lol, ^that made me laugh. No, I do not work for Gucci: if I did, do you think I would pan Frida as hard as I am doing here on tfs? She is a horrendous fashion designer, but a person who knows what sells in today's market. You are talking about 70s and 80s... it is a joke. You say for you 'Gucci died the day Tom Ford left'... well, good for you, but I am sorry that is a delusion. I wish it had died and they would see what a horrid designer Frida is, but it didn't. The business is stronger than ever. People are buying her stuff. What I am stating is the obvious facts about the BUSINESS of mass market luxury. You are talking about Chanel competing with one of the two biggest luxury corporations of the world. Business-wise, it is not possible today. Does that sound logical to you at all? Of course every business may go under, but Gucci and LV are built on a structure much larger than the designers in question today. It is not the same question of 'what will happen to Ferre or McQueeen when the designers leave or die?' Plus, what will happen to Chanel when Karl dies? Do you think the business will go as smoothly as it does now? Before attacking people personally, I think you should see some facts and figures and try to read the whole post to understand what they are talking about. I would pick Chanel over today's Gucci any day of the week. Well, not as a customer, because like I said, Chanel has no mens line to speak of, when Gucci offers everything in mass market luxury possible. Do I like them?? No. I am not showering ridiculous amounts of praises on Gucci , I am talking about the facts here. The brand sells, whether we like it or not. And that is the precise reason why Frida doesn't stretch a muscle or gets replaced like Theyskens: she feels like what she does is successful. And the reason why people of many generations are connected to the name 'Gucci' is Tom and the ridiculous amount of advertising that the company shoves down our throats every year/every month. Today's fashion and luxury consumer is not as smart as you think. And these corporate brands are so much bigger than their designers. Gucci is the ultimate proof of that scenario. looking at it again... it DOES remind me of Vuitton Cruise 09... tho, really, we need to see more looks to properly judge. maybe the truly hideous stuff (read: really Frida-stuff) is still to be posted!

What's with all these watered down, snoozefest of cruise collections lately? At least, Zac Posen put a lil bit effort into it
