That's a bit how I'm envisioning it, coupled with the look he created while at YSL. Very severe, androgynously sexy, streamlined...

I doubt he'd go the rocker route that his later Dior work embodied because a) what else can possible be said about that and b) it makes absolutely no sense for YSL. I mean, I guess it didn't make that much sense for Dior either, but there was no real masculine image to Dior when he took over. YSL has at least some pre-existing history for it's menswear, and any of the designers who've tackled it -- Hedi, Tom Ford, Stefano Pilati -- have seemed to keep it partially in mind.

If he is smart and keeping it unpredictable...he will do what Pheobe did for Celine. A total departure from her work with Chlow. Indie rock would be such a bad idea I think. Is like Tom Ford who can't move forward!!

with phoebe at celine, hedi at ysl, and raf at dior, have we finally entered a new fashion decade marked by minimalism much like the nineties?

I don't think things will ever go back to being truly minimal as they were in the 90's...

But, considering there is in fact a fourth player whose appointment has yet to be announced, I'd say there's a definite change on the way. It's a new era for sure.

very exciting.

I don't know if minimalism is the word, I think of modern and bold, but at the same time I truely think that Phoebe and Raf are in other level from Hedi.

If his YSL collection will only consist of black & white pieces than I will have officially missed Stefano.

yea, but I understand that they want to build a hype.

Now well just have Jils mens and Rafs resort collection. Which is still enough in my eyes.

Californian YSL
by ELLA ALEXANDER

YVES SAINT LAURENT creative director Hedi Slimane will base himself in his creative studio in Los Angeles, rather than the house's Parisian headquarters
Slimane, who took the brand's reins in March this year, relocated to LA in 2007 after he left Dior Homme where he pursued art and photography. Fittings will still take place in Paris and YSL ateliers will continue to work from the label's Avenue George V offices, WWD reports.
While it is traditional for creative directors of French houses to live in Paris, Slimane follows in the relocation footsteps ofPhoebe Philo, who helms Paris-based Celine from London.

^ that's quite..remarkable. I mean, London and Paris are only one hour apart by Eurostar..but LA is quite a different story.

plus it's not at all the same scenery, meaning the inspiration behind YSL will not be the "typical parisian"...
