Strange for someone who wanted to be free... Couldn't he have done What Dries or Ann did?
Well, at least, PPR accepts niche brands (Bottega) and doesn't lower the quality (bottega again) but don't be follish and remember Stella and Alexander have to stop loosing money until... until 2007. If they don't, then what will happen to them?

well,if this is eventually deemed to be true, then that's great for him. but indeed there are pros and cons in working under a conglomerate company. yes, they are bit more accepting of more creative minds but like belletrist says, one does still have to worrry about keeping sales figures consistent. i dunno how people will take to him there....will the fanaticism still be the same or have people begun to burn out of the hype of slimane?

great points posted belletrist, Hedi doesnt seem to want to stay 'free' after all, but we still need confirmation on this newsbit

You're right Lena, even if it's REALLY consistent until there's no official statement as of now this remains a rumor....

PRR/Gucci is (in my opinion) the BEST conglomerate to work for, they will let designers be designers. They keep the quality. Of course, there is that whole "make us money or else" thing happening w/ McCartney, I think McQueen and Balenciaga are safe.

I am surprised as others have expressed that he would trade one luxury conglomorate for another. If this is true it makes you wonder if Slimane had some prescience looking towards PPR while he was still at Dior Homme... I believe there were rumors before of Slimane going over to Gucci.

PPR has made it clear they expect profits from their designers and if that 10 million euro projection is accurate, Hedi Slimane may be exactly what they are looking for. I'm excited for Slimane to put out under his own name, it's long been overdue. I just hope he avoids the Rock n' Roll, that will be his undoing if he doesn't shake it.

Even his YSL collections featured Rock elements, Slimane is NOT going to leave the bands attitude, it's part of his edgy vision of couture.

it didn't took him alot of time to do it , happy to see him in Gucci Group
for me they are more prestigous & fashionable than LVMH which are more commercial to me .
can't wait too see his vision & impact ...

I disagree, the rock and roll was never there in the same levels of saturation as it was towards the last few collections he did for Dior. The Peter Doherty collection really represents the extreme.

And what is so edgy now about rock n' roll?

Singing in an opera is more edgy, really.
