I would not say that the Hedi era (or Tom era to be honest) is over, but more likely it's over as it was before. With these creative types of people, I think it's hard to move out of something and then move right back into it the exact same way. Nothing is ever as good as the first time in the sense that it's not the same. So I think that Hedi will try something different that will create a different type of new buzz around him (I apply that to Tom also). It's almost like when the Versace era was over. The old was over, but with a little restructuring and such, it's moving back in with a new direction. Although, I could be completely wrong about this situation, but I am optimistic.

I don't mean that their time has passed, that they are creatively dead or something nor that they SHOULD retire. Sometimes the market decides when they are over or not. (NOT always, sometimes)
But the Hedi-era was (by my opinion) defined by the segment he believed in so much.. The rock 'n' roll-underground-indie-electroclash-new wave-berlin. And it is oversaturated now. THAT 'S over. And for Hedi it was not just a trend, it was his whole system. Whatever he does next, it won't be the same (just like Tom Ford) This is fashion people, this stuff happens, this is the stuff that makes it exciting and keeps it fun. By the way, he didnt choose to leave, his contract was finished. And they couldnt settle about a new one...$$$$$$$$$$$ (maybe the studio got fed up of having to wear black and white all the time. or hiding any coloured fabrics behind screens when hedi got in) And talking about optimism, i would rather see an up-and-coming designer in paris fashionweek. Ok, back to fixing my ventilator ![]() |

I don't believe so lena
![]() The true Hedi is much better than the Hedi which is stalking here since SS 05. I want what he did at YSL or at his Dior debut. I want pure aesthetic, no rock, no gimmicks, no t-shirts, no jeans, just design, and I truly believe this is his essence. He will never be (this being a very personnal comment) as talented as Ann, or Raf, because he's still a commercial designer, but he's among the most talented ones! And I can see a niche market brand bearing the "Hedi Slimane" (white letters on a black label I bet!) and working very well. If he manages to move forward.

but telepathic, just think of the millions of dior addicts across the globe that are and will continue to mimick that look. not to mention, there are loads of designers still doing that look in menswear.

The Hedi's "skinny era" might be over in the main scene as the fall silhouette is more american football than rock and roll (look at Lanvin, YSL, and especially Kim Jones:-) But I like it when he is "sticking" to his onw "boys", whoever they are, young, skinny, rock and roll and from the street.
Telepathic, you are so right to say this is his whole system. It could be so bad if he will do sth different.

I agree, through the span of Hedi's career the rock obsessed collections represent only the tail end from 2005 onward. Hedi's challenge is to move beyond them, to move with the world. And personally I believe in those later and very trite Dior Homme collections were the most amazing but hidden womenswear. ![]() from www.thesartorialist.blogspot.com If this is any sign of what we can expect from Slimane as he breaks out under his own name then perhaps the Dior Homme era is truly over but Slimane's has just begun. the last couple DH collections were more women's wear than men. especially ss07. infact, the cloth flat out looked better on girls. if u look at magazine editorials of chicks in DH, it's much more flattering. i hope with his own label, Hedi would restore the "masculine" part of "androgyny."

it is funny that there are a million "dior-addicts" in the world, and still dior homme wasn't making any profit.
what is interesting is that you CAN compare hedi with raf and ann, regarding their relationship with art, modern culture and subcultures. so i am extremely curious about the relevance of a hedi slimane-label, but i guess we will all find out. meanwhile i continue windowshopping at lanvin homme, cause i love whats happening there!!! ![]() is it also so extremely hot where you all live? its 28 degrees celsius here : / a bit much for april.... |
