I'm not sure why people are labelling her obnoxious and pretentious...

It wasn't so long ago she was struggling to pay electricity bills and her partner at IOC (matt damhave) was homeless...

I think she should stick with the IOC concept...even with a name that controversial...

People are labelling her obnoxious because she is. She's become pretty well known for having an attitude.

Does the fact that she was struggling just to live mean that she can't be a stuck up b**ch?

Tara Subkoff Wants A Job In Paris
Imitation of Christ couture, round 2

PARIS: Friday, July 08, 2005

Her previous flirtation with Paris haute couture was three years ago, when Tara Subkoff hijacked the Dior show with a fleet of ambulances that spilled out models who staged campy dramatics to the delight of those waiting under the baking sun.

This afternoon, the sun was definitely not shining when Subkoff made a more official couture showing. In fact, a few drops of rain started to fall but then thought better of it and stayed in the gray clouds. An empty park—a group of teenage boys were playing basketball at the other end—behind the St. Paul church was the setting where models paraded a simple collection of chiffon dresses hand-painted with flowers as a girl sang a dirge about Bonnie & Clyde into a microphone and guys rushing around with cameras gave the impression of a movie being rather urgently filmed.

Theatrics aside, the clothes were pretty and light, and light-handed too, with bared backs, ruffled rolls around a neckline, a scarf sashed around the hips, and hems gently tucked under like sexy little parachutes.

As Subkoff told eager press afterwards, Paris is her favorite city in the world and she'd move here in an instant, "if someone gives me a job!"

Well,it's not just the attitude I dislike about IOC....a large part does have to do with design credibilty and the fact that she prices so stupidly high for stuff that appears quite amateurish.

What'd she do at Dior?

This is Million Dollar Baglady IMO. And enough people can pull those dresses off. It's not couture, but it's not bad.

That's right, about 14 months ago in WWD. Never read any follow-up on it. I like the presentation. As for the clothes, they are okay.

I was surprised to see this on Yahoo this morning as well. Overall, what people have said is correct: this does not look like couture...and it does not look like fall/winter. However, the dresses arent so bad...just somewhat uninspired and out of place.

IOC should leave couture to those who REALLY know how to do it.

Subkoff has been showing (unofficially) since 2002.

It's not so much a matter of invitation as it is milking connections.

Her RTW was terrible, Bonnie Cashin in fleece. And I agree, this is nothing new. How many floaty, colorful dresses do we see every season? The woman just makes me angry.
