The livestream for the J. Mendel collection finished and, I have to say, it left me absolutely agasp.
The collection opened with coats with what I guess was tiny top-stitching in intricate patterns that created an incredible embossed effect. This pattern was continued throughout the collection, even in the furs, and most stunningly rendered in a sandy colour only on the back of a long, otherwise plain coat.
Amongst the other spectacles an entirely simple belted, black sheared fur coat that glistened like no silk-velvet can, literally took my breath away.
The show finished with incredibly frail beaded evening gowns in soft wintry colours.

Gilles Mendel blasted socialite furrier, Dennis Basso (who also showed yesterday) and his More-Is-More lynx and chinchilla patchwork decadencies back into his marble fur vault with such refined understatement as I don't think I have ever seen in fur.
I hope Lagerfeld's Fendi can at least try and par this sort of modest hyper-luxury.

He took a risk and went a bit edgier, and for me it payed off big time! I always love the way he combines furs with his elegant dresses so was thrilled to see that element stay the same, and my what beautiful furs they are. Everything about the collection is so regal -- the color palette, the cuts, the intricate patterns and beading. Usually I am moved by the loveliness of Gilles' collections, but this time I was moved by the sexiness! If I have to find criticism it would be that a couple of the pieces felt a little dated, just a few though. It's one of my favorite collections by far this season.

Hope we get HQ pics soon, these do nothing to show the beauty of the pieces.

for the girl who swooned over the moody armani collection, this collection picked up on that blue-black spirit and took it to an entirely different level for fall. of course, the furs here remain the stuff of legend, but i'm actually impressed at the dark cosmopolitan nature of these dresses maintain while still evoking a bohemian spirit. i wouldn't be surprised to see this on a fashion-forward starlet on the oscar's red carpet or draped and belted over a long sleeve shirt and wide legged pants to the theater.

Dark side of J. Mendel? surprisingly, it looks good, but donīt know if this collection will be so likeable for hollywood stars and celebs, who usually wear his clothes...

I don't like it... this overload on shinyness, the bad silhouettes and those tacky furcoats

I like that he tooka risk and created this collection that has a dark edge to it. Some of the peices miss the mark but I think its growing on me. The coats are just amazing on their own and I am really in love with the very first 2 looks, they are quite stunning.

I think this is a major step in the right direction for J. Mendel. It looks great.
