i was disappointed to hear about this. while her designs aren't my style, i have always appreciated her aesthetic quality.

that's sad, but i respect her reasons. her aesthetic is great, but the quality has been declining and the prices only skyrocketing...as seems to be for every designer...

sad to hear the confrimation but i saw this coming.... the production was all over the place and the prices had skyrocketed for her last 2 seasons ..
it is a shame but i see where she is coming from. today it is not only about making clothes anymore, there are a lot more things to it for it to work and be enjoyable..
i hope she does continue in fashion. i remember her being in the talks for Chloe not long time ago so maybe she has something else under her sleeve?

seems like she's throwing in the towel too early. i think she should have either sold the company or hired a business agent to get her a deal with another retailer.

I don't know, I guess I'm of a mind that if you really do love what you're doing, you face these kinds of challenges and find ways around them. These problems are industry wide at this point, so it's not just her that's being effected.

That's just my not entirely well-informed and overly idealized opinion though.

She can still design, if I were her I'd try to grab a job as a director somewhere with a high profile, do that gig for a few seasons, make the connections, and then try again with a new business plan. But she probably won't try running her own business for a while, I certainly wouldn't want to.

What a shame!
I've only discovered her over the last couple of years and love her clothes
But If she's not into it anymore then good for her......

UGotMayle...while i understand your disappointment, do you think perhaps you could tone it down and employ some sensitivity and caution when choosing your words?....i think it would be nice if you would stop throwing around phrases about depression and killing yourself and wanting to die....not only is it completely melodramatic, it is actually quite inappropriate. thanks..

what i'm about to say is off topic but i will say it anyway because i think it's important- as someone who has lost two family members in the past week, i can say with all confidence that it is NOT like she is dead....and that your language is highly inappropriate....i don't know how anyone else feels but i would appreciate if you took that into consideration from now on....your words are powerful and while the loss of a designer is sad, you need to put things into perspective....please have some respect Mayle

^ i have to agree. i understand that you may be sad or disappointed, but it's quite inappropriate, not to mention over-dramatic, to start talking about killing yourself on this thread.

Come on you all. You all are being WAY WAY WAY too overly serious. I wasn't being serious. In all honesty you all are making me feel even worse about all of this. Thanks a lot.. I cannot believe how you all thought I was serious that I wanted to kill myself.. I was just in the moment and very upset.. gosh...
