Nobody thinks you're going to kill yourself, dear! We understand what you're saying. But as a public space, one never knows who may be reading it and taking it to heart...that's why topics/expressions that might elicit strong responses are not allowed on tFS, even though it sometimes seems overly cautious. Especially a person like you who means no harm, for your own sake you really dont want to be responsible for such a misunderstanding. Just my two cents.

It's too bad about Mayle...but this happens to even the best. sounds like she's got something up her sleeve though.

I agree, fashion is a fickle business. it's not like she's disappeared forever. do you think that if some big label offers her a creative director stint she's going to turn it down?

is she still leaving? i heard the news over the summer and since then i've seen resort and spring 2009 collections.. i'd be glad if she stayed, and also if prices dropped

Was it a scheme? I don´t really care because I really love her design aesthetic and want to see more of it! Most of her dresses are so gorgeous.

Back when Jane Mayle announced she would be closing up shop next month, everyone shared pretty much the same reaction: Sadness and disappointment with an undertone of “I’ve got to hit their next sale.” So you’d think that today’s news of Mayle holding off her closing until April - and tucking a “highly limited-edition collection” into the crunched time space, too - would have brought only one response from everyone, but maybe not so.
One half of the Fashionista office was all, “Yay! Another shot at cute Mayle clothes before summer! Hope there are little dresses.”
The other half: “Whoa, really? That seems a little sneaky - Getting sales off all the hype from closing? And while everyone’s been clamoring to get a piece from her last, or what was her last, collection? It’s a little off-putting, though I’m sure it’ll all be great stuff.”
So is this kind of like a backhanded piece of good news?
We’ll think about this afternoon - But of course, see you at the store, right?

well, she had problems with production as far as i know as she had changed manufaturer for her last collection. the biggest problem is that the prices suddenly became so much more expensive that the retail price just did not justify the pieces anymore.
i hope that if she is back she has taken all that into consideration

Your Really Last Chance to Get Mayle. Really.

Ladies, this is your last chance. And Jane Mayle really means it this time. Though the beloved Mayle shop in Nolita will indeed be closing on February 28—as was previously announced to much keening and weeping—Mayle is coming back for an all-too-brief encore on March 6. The pop-up Mayle shop will feature a selection of classic pieces (some styles date back as far as Spring 2002) redone in fabric from the designer’s archives. “So many of my customers have been waxing nostalgic and telling me how much they wish certain items could make a reappearance,” explains Mayle of her decision to launch the pop-up, which will stay open through the end of March. “This is my way of trying to satisfy that demand, as well as finding a worthy and very ‘green’ home for fabrics I’ve been holding onto.” Pieces included in the limited-edition collection destined for the pop-up include the label’s classic Avignon dress, a ’40s-style tea dress, and several styles from Fall ‘03, which Mayle herself describes as a favorite collection. “This is also kind of a selfish endeavor,” she notes. “Now I have the chance to update a few silhouettes, or finesse a detail I always wanted to fix, or see what a blouse or a dress would look like in a different material. And it’s the last chance for me to shore up
my Mayle wardrobe, too.”
