well- it's for the couture only, right?
which about 3 people buy anyway...
and i doubt anyone really ever bought MMM couture-
i mean- a mini dress made of wigs turned inside out?
i would say that stuff was ever flying off the shelves/racks...

in the meantime- it give galliano the opportunity to really go for it, from a creative point of view...
frankly-
a dress made from old newspapers is actually quite relevant in both designers vernaculars...

the challenge for John will be to stay away from bias cut...
because that is what made him famous and is the very antithesis of MMM...
the MMM customer wants to be sexy without being overt...
i'm not sure i've ever seen galliano do this and i'm not even sure he can...

time will tell...

in any case- i wish him well...
he really got screwed, imo...
i hope he doesn't withdraw the case against arnault...

anyway- john should feel a little satisfaction about how this is all turning out - dior totally sucks now...
it's not like they got rid of him and everything is just selling like hotcakes...
...

at this point i've become so fed up with the direction MMM has been taking and the latest collection for me was the final nail in the coffin. while galliano was never a particular favourite of mine, specifically after his ego started to become bigger than dior, and his aesthetics and ideas were less conceptual and innate than MM,perhaps the time away has changed his design aesthetics? and who knows, looking at a lot of galliano's work before the gimmicks and garishness, there was an exquisitely experimental side to him and maybe he can take MMM back to those roots. btw, inge grognard who is a childhood friend and close collaborator of MM himself said this is precisely the direction that MM wanted before he departed so maybe this will be a positive thing.

^ I think Dior is selling quite well. And you, out of everyone, with your 50K + posts, should know that couture is the source of fantasy and desire that drive the other cheaper collections such as ready-to-wear and cosmetics.

I hope John will take over the whole company, not just the couture.

I couldn't think of a better way for him to make a comeback than with a couture show. Although I feel like he would have been a better fit to take over for OdlR.

A little sad to see that Matthieu won't be there anymore, though. I quite liked what he was doing. Hopefully he gets picked up by a big company.

I like galliano for who he is, his ott aesthetics but Margiela is really one of a kind in the fashion world until lately.

I always hope secretly they will just bring someone unknown but talented, surely there is one out there, instead of trying to leverage on Galliano'so reputation, scandal or no scandal, his aesthetics simply doesn't fit with Margiela's.

But well, it's diesel, right?

This are incredible news!! I'm so happy I love Galliano and fashion has become such a snooze fest, I'm exited how he will incorporate his genius and talent within the house aesthetic and legacy! Galiano needed a comeback and I'm happy he is in a house that creates Haute Couture. People should also give him back his name label since it has become such a tragedy with the other designer.

Nope, John will exact creative control over all MMM lines: womens, mens, couture, accessories, the lot!

If he can tap back into that early 00's era of himself, I really think this will be a very, very strong fit (of course, it'd be best if he could be at his own label...)

I have nothing new to add to this discussion, except for just saying BRING IT ON

Welcome back John

Regardless of how the clothes turn out, I'm just looking forward to the show itself. John always knew how to stage an amazing show and cast models who knew how to work the clothes.
