I'm sorry you don't understand this. A price is a price no matter where you buy it. Your shipping charge is where you pay extra to make up for those costs incurred. So one thing has nothing to do with the other. I bought from TopShop before they had the US site and paid what the conversion cost was. I buy from HQ Hair and pay exactly what the conversion rate is. It's the same if I flew to London and bought it. They wouldn't charge me more because I live in the US. I think TopShop is just being lazy and doubling the price (which was the conversion rate last year...but that's not the case now with the economy.) 60 GBP converts to approx. $89 and they charging $125. That's obscene. But I really wanted the jacket so I paid it. It probably is cheaper to buy it at the jacked up prices on ebay but I'd rather buy from the store. Hope that puts it in the right view for you.

Wow, you know I didn't even realise the huge conversion difference till you pointed it out, Gingerpye. I know sometimes it's cheaper for Americans and of course, right now, its a lot more expensive. Hopefully when the economy sorts itself out it will, once again, become cheaper for you and balance out.

Topshop from what I know has always doubled the amount but it's hard times. And I think the conversion rate is too much effort for them to keep up with. Terrible, I agree

But I bet you're not the only one reluctant to buy from them because of this and I bet they're getting an awful lot of complaints. Maybe you should drop them an email too? Every little helps and maybe if they get enough emails they'll sort it out (can only hope!)

I was thinking of doing that but only after I have the jacket in hand Don't want to mess my order up. There was another jacket I liked that was 120 GBP that would have cost about $180 but they're asking $250 US! Now that I'll think about getting on ebay. Thanks for the support.

PS-I think that's why a lot of us didn't buy from Barneys and went straight to the TopShop site. Barneys prices were terribly high! Us internet saavy fashion girls know better!

The thing is, things bought from Topshop US gets shipped from the UK. It's not like they have an American inventory. I was so fed up with the conversion rates that I stopped buying from their site at the end of last year, but at that time this was still the case. I don't know if they will start to ship from the US now that Topshop NYC is open.

Topshop's US site is just a way for them to make more money, not really to cater to US customers. It's not like they didn't ship to the US before.. and they also made the site right as the pound started suffering against the dollar. The US website is basically a clone of the British one, but with dollar prices. Smart marketing move (especially because the opening of Topshop.com coincided with a new KM collection launch, and so did the opening of Topshop NYC), bad for customers who realize they are getting charged more.

The difference is also pretty huge. A pound is swimming between 1.4-1.6 US dollar. That is 25% less from the prices Topshop charges. Nowadays if I want something from Topshop I just look for it on ebay UK. Way cheaper, even if they charge a bit above the British retail.

No, it's only dimante and 'pearls'. I find it true to size, yes. On me, it's tightest on the chest. I will wear it with tights/opaques, not leggings - it would be too bland as the dress is made of cotton as well

I wish they would just go back to the original site where we could order from it and pay whatever the conversion rate was that day. It would be smarter for them, since they wouldn't have to shoulder the responsibility of the fluctuating dollar.

Hi again...does anyone have this dress? Is it very short? I'm about 5' 10" and am hoping it's not crotch skimming! Does it run true to size? Are you happy with it? TIA

I got given a booklet with kate moss wearing the designs, is that the one?

Regarding the quilted jacket, no luck sorry ]: Only 1 topshop near me stocked the KM items and it only stocked about 10 of the items. They do have a couple of the winged suede jacket though in size 10 I believe if anyones looking for that? It's the branch in Canterbury, Kent next to Fenwicks. There's also a few of the liberty striped orange and blue dresses too in various sizes which are also sold out on the website.

Yes well, welcome to our world.

We often have to pay more than the direct exchange rate (which was even worse back when the USD was low against the GBP) for clothes from US brands sold it the UK. So I can't really feel any sympathy when American companies have been doing this in the UK for ages.

Personally I think a lot of Topshop's items are over priced anyway. They've become so ridiculously trendy and their prices have followed, but often the quality just isn't there, particularly with their leather goods.

The only thing I still buy at Topshop are their skinny jeans.
