The Kooples
http://www.thekooples.com/

i came across this store on my recent trip to paris...
the kooples or 'the couples' (said with a french accent i guess...)
it is from the same people who do comptoir de cottoniers
all the clothing is very rocker and androgynous...
just my style...

the site is all in french...
but i found this online...
The Kooples- 09.10.08

While in Paris i stumbled across a new store (new, as in there are 6 currently open around paris, and quite a few others in the process of opening around france), The Kooples. I suppose what struck me first was the black and white interiors, bright white lighting (apparently the designers were adamant about making sure the lighting didn’t interfere with the perception of the clothing colors), and the slightly american apparel feel with the candid photography - but with a far more… London rocker meets Saville Row with a Parisian twist? It’s hard to describe, you have to go see it ~ but the tailoring of every detail is impeccable, yet these perfect jackets and shirts had fun subtle yet hardcore skulls on metal buttons… and when unfortunately a jacket i loved didn’t have my size in the color i wanted, i couldn’t help myself and got a really fun necklace (pics on the next page). As for the branding, beyond the black, white, and photography ~ the packaging is nice too, see the bag on the next page! And like Acne, they even have a magazine/newspaper that is just starting off as well…
The Kooples is the return of street chic, a Paris-London mindset, a musical inclination, fashion as a manifest, and a cloakroom for two. For five minutes or the last fifteen years, for one night, for some time, it is a way of life, a game.

The Kooples: Band or Brand?

Base, BaseDesign 09/3/08 | Catalogue, Fashion

The Kooples campaign — Julien & Dorothée

The three brothers who brought us renowned Parisian brand Comptoir des Cotonniers have just launched “The Kooples”, a luxurious yet accessible fashion label based on the concept of stylish rock ‘n’ roll couples.

While the Elisha brothers designed everything from the clothing to the campaigns, and the stores to the logo, they contacted us to design and produce their debut catalog. We were thrilled to collaborate with them, and designed the catalog in an A3 format newsprint, in full-color. The content is a mixture of photos taken by the youngest brother Raphael, and texts about the different real-life couples featured in the campaign, as well as details about the clothing and the label itself.

The Kooples launched on September 1 in more than 20 stores throughout Paris and in various other provincial French cities. Watch for them to come to your town. For more information visit www.thekooples.com

The Kooples Cardigans

by Junior the “conker” in Men's fashion (on September 20, 2008)
Yes, of course you’re manly enough to wear a cardigan! Yes, yes, I insist, even with a shawl collar. At any rate, you can bet that a lot of your friends will try to steal it or at least won’t be able to stop themselves feeling how soft the knit is with the back of their hands!

And yes, without being the best cashmere style, the knit is chunky, generous and soft, and it shows! What’s more, you’ll be able to get the bus comfortably early in the morning without carrying a bulky jacket (remember: the summer is over, Paris switched to winter timetables on 1 September!).
Which coincides with the opening of three The Kooples stores in Paris. And perhaps you also walked through the doors without noticing the brand. Even thought I knew about the stores’ opening, I completely forgot and I walked into 3 rue des Rosiers without paying attention. Simply because I liked the look of the window display even though the shop itself was empty.
Before stepping through the door, I even looked up to see where I was; at The Kooples store. All of which leads me to tell you about the brand itself.
Their idea is, as often noted, to try to use so-called fine materials and make simple, well-cut garments, and to sprinkle them with details that make all the difference! Overall I find the collection a success. There is a decidedly rock influence and a focus on tailored cuts. The Kooples’ style tends towards androgyny, particularly in advertising where couples are brought together around a theme of sharing clothes.
So we see many unisex pieces at The Kooples such as jackets and cardigans, though it’s not really true of this one. Coming soon: the opening of our online store.

€180 from The Kooples at 31, rue des Rosiers 75004 Paris

I love the idea and image of this brand (contrived yes... but I like it). I think they're doing very well - great look and stores.

The clothes look great when styled, but individually I only like a couple of pieces, and out of them only a few look good on/have decent quality that's equal to their price points.
