Take it from someone who has seen her clothes in person, the quality and fit is definately there. The reviews have been mixed which is expected since she coming from a "reality TV" background. However, most of the reviews see her collection as cute, wearable, good quality and an improvement from her first collection just not creative enough. Even though I am a fan of her, I will admit that she will need to be more creative in the future in order to stay a float in the fashion world. It might be hard because her financial backer , Viacom, probably wants her to make clothes that are going to sell and she is quite young. Secondly, I doubt that her collection sells because of her fan base... it not like Lauren is a huge star with a huge following. Her clothes will appeal to the average young American women who wants wearable pieces that can be worn to work, party, etc... Believe it or not most young women do not want to wear Balenciaga, Fendi... they just want stylish and nice pieces that they can accessorized into their own style. Lauren collection achieves that.
sadly, this is not true. she has a HUGE, i mean huge fan base (i have no clue why either.. what is she actually famous for? being "herself" on a supposedly fake reality show?) there are so many girls that look up to her, want to be her, and will definitely buy her clothes to be more like her. it's the truth and it's sad. so ultimately, she taking advantage of her fan base and with viacom (owns mtv) as a backer, that just shows how this is just for profit and to suck the cash out of these vulnerable girls who watch her show.. and even worse, i have a cousin who is one of these girls

her collection is just clothes; it's target clothes with a big price tag.

She's taking advantage of her fans by producing a line of basic, well-made garments that are nearly universally flattering. Oh the horror. I would imagine it isn't young girls who buy her garments but young women who I would think are a bit less vulnerable to being swept away by her supposed fame. I don't think she has a particularly large fan-base and she certainly isn't very famous...what she has is notable style and some seek to emulate by wearing things from her line.

Though I don't agree with Simon about the fact that she is taking advantage of everyone, he is dead on about the fan base. I would say that she is nearly the "Hannah Montana" for young teenagers. Every girl between the ages of 13-19 (and some that are much older) that I know is obsessed with the Hills and Lauren, too. They'll buy her clothes because of the name, not for quality (if it really is quality, I have no clue) or style. Besides, where I live the prices are very very high for this age range.

I used to really like Lauren but never was a fan of her style. It's ok but has always been rather plain for my taste.

there are other lines of "basic, well-made garments that are nearly universally flattering" that do not have these prices.

She does have a pretty big fan-base, as The Hills is the number one show on MTV. Plus, the target segment for the "reality" show is for your typical adolescent/teenager, plus the odd early-twenty year olds who are probably attached to The Hills because of Laguna Beach. These are also the girls who are easily influenced by what Lauren wears... the producers at MTV aren't stupid. If Lauren didn't resonate so highly with the viewers, they wouldn't have five seasons of Laguna Beach/Newport Harbour, and soon-to-be four seasons of The Hills.

As for the "basic, well-made garments," they definitely might be that, but you can also get similar quality/style at Urban Outfitters for half the price.

I should clarify - Lauren is popular amongst a segment of the populatioin who watches reality television, but she is hardly a household name in the way that numerous other young starlets are. She is no Paris, Nicole etc who can carry a line on name recognition alone.

As for the last statement, Lauren's line retails for forty bucks to two hundred. I think that is perfectly reasonable for a beginning designer with an already established record of good sells.

I dont think Lauren fans make up the 13-19 age bracket. I would say mostly 18-24. In fact, look at the ratings breakdown of the hills (I will post once I research the info) but the vast majority of the 5 millions of viewers are part of the much loved 18-32 demographic. Most of LC fans have known her since Laguna and others who appreciated her classic, understated, and not-bogged-down-by-every-trend style. I am not saying that she does not have a significant fans in the 13-19 group... but they are not the one buying her clothes based on two factors: money and clothes are probably too simple/conservative for that age group. Secondly, Lauren is on a scripted reality tv show that is watched by 5-6 millions viewers on MTV... The chances that some 21 year old girl bought her a dress from her line in New Orleans for 150 dollars+ to go to church/school/party has more to do with the fact that a) she liked the dress, b) it looked good on her and c) she will get use out of it rather than her trying to be Lauren Conrad. Lauren is semi-famous... she is not Madonna.

I don't shop at Forever 21, but I imagine this is what the stuff there would look like...

The Hills was the #1 show on cable for women aged 18-34 so her fanbase is not just impressionable young girls who are more likely to look to Miley Cyrus than Lauren for inspiration. Her clothes are selling because adult women who can afford them are buying them.

^^ It's actually number 1 for the segment age 12-34 I think that there are certainly some people who are buying them because they like them; at the same time, I do think a certain, and possibly quite large, degree of her success with the sales of the fashion line stems from her popularity. She is definitely not a household name, but the demographics of the girls with whom she is popular are also the girls who really are obsessed with The Hills/Laguna Beach/Newport Harbour, and you'll find a lot of them do have high disposable income.

ugh miley cyrus irritates me sometimes and i'm around her age. Idk if its her or the little girls screaming her name all the time. lol

and yeah. i agree. Her clothes are cute but too much money. i think she needs a wider range of items for a cheaper price. And she said when she went to paris she was infuenced. i don't really see it in her designs but their cute i guess.

I had a feeling that it was not a bunch of 13-19 years old that was watching the hills. According to usatoday.com, the hills average a total of 4.2 million viewers each monday night (not including those who watch reruns or via the internet). The 4.2 million viewers is made up of 3.1 millions 18-to-49 years old and 2.7 millions 18-to-34 years old. The majority of hills viewers are young adult and the remaining 1.1 millions viewers are made up of 17 years old and younger or 49 years old and older LOL. I really think that the prime viewers are women in their early twenties... and I dont think they would spent their hard earned money solely on a name... the style and quality have to be there.

Yep, The Hills is definitely popular in the young women category. People in my apartment building host "The Hills" viewing parties.

They do that in my dorm! I really don't see what the fuss is about. LC has about as much talent as one of the Hiltons. Her clothes are cuter (I use that term very loosely) but, as it has been reiterated over and over again, not worth the price... especially because I can find it somewhere else at friendlier prices (i.e. Forever 21 ).
