This reminds me of Andy Warhol's first exhibit featuring cans of Campbell's soup, where no one knew whether to be impressed by perceived commentary on pop culture or disgusted by what appeared to be an aisle in a market.

It's postmodern "couture" ; it subtly mocks the entire premise of the season while ensuring that it remains "exclusive" in its own right. Therein lies part of the irony. You are paying for luxe materials to look like trash. It's a form of reverse simulacrum. It also addressing that fine line between art and commerce with a very black sense of humor.
There's another layer of irony. In short, you are paying through the nose for a very complex and esoteric sartorial joke. MMM wins in all regards.

Yup, and MMM is one of the few fashion visionaries out there today who can still pull this type of trick with success & credibility in tact.
